Dark, creamy stout head with oatmeal, licorice, coffee, and leather on the nose. Burned maltiness and coffee on the tongue. Smooth and heavy. One of the best stouts that I’ve tasted recently.

On tap at the 2007 GTMW: Pours an opaque black with a frothy, well-lacing light brown head. Aroma of sweet mapley caramel with some earthy dark chocolate. Body starts sweet and fairly rich with good dark caramel and chocolate maltiness along with molasses. A very nice oatmeal stout.

Rich stout! Cottage cream head, pitch black, 97% opaque, black. Good sweetness. Roast, caramel, chocolate...all very rich and very good. (on tap at brewpub, then growler at home)

Had this one on draught as part of the sampler flight at the brewery in Duluth, Minnesota. Opaque, oily brown pour with a thick, light brouwn head, strong bitter cocoa in the nose, with soy sauce, more bitter chocolate throughout. Finished alcoholic but very smooth. Very good!

On tap at the brewhouse. Pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma of mainly roast malt. Taste was chocolately and malty and fairly sweet. Very thick and creamy. Satisfying. One of the better stouts I have come across.

On tap at Fitger’s Brewpub in Duluth, MN. Pours a very dark chocolate color. The aroma is very robust and malty, with strong smells of chocolate, coffee and I think even a tiny bit of smoke. The flavor is more coffee and toffee than chocolate, with maybe a hint of vanilla, with a relatively long, complex after taste.

Good chocolate undertones. Creamy, heavy head. Great beer to go along with meal at the brewhouse.

Big oatmeal stout. First impression wow there is definitely oats here. Nice mouthfeel generated by the oats rather than the use of Nitro. Firm hoppiness with a late charge of cascades to dance on the tongue. A really nice stout.
