On draught during the Winterfest 2008 in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. Lucky me to have tried this beer. Pours an opaque nearly black brew with a fast dissolving beige head that dissipates clean. Aroma of bourbon whiskey, roasted dark malt, tart cherries, and a touch of coconut. Taste is thick and strong, smooth with flavors of roasted dark malt, tart cherries, some vanilla and a touch of yeast. Finish is strong alcohol character with aftertastes of whiskey and cherries. Maybe a little bitg of cherry NyQuil but still very enjoyable.

Black as night with faint brown head. Sweet and slightly tart cherry aroma with a complex blast of the usual bourbon suspects - oak, vanilla, & funk and some bourbon biscuit. Smooth body with similar flavors to the aroma.

Black as they come. Sweet cherries hit ya first, followed by the bourban, a decent one-two punch. This was a lot better then i would have though, as the cherries didnt overpower their already good stout.

Pours out a deep black color, topped by maybe half an inch of brownish foam. Fantastic head retention, heavy foam in the lacing. Cherry liquer, bourbon, and thick roasted grain in the aroma. The flavor is just nuts – thick sweet chocolate, bitter roasted malt, tart cherry, oak, and just a hint of bourbon. Excellent balance, medium-full body, gently but amply carbonated, very smooth and silky. An almost oily mouthfeel gives away to some residual alcohol in the finish.

Winterfest 2007. Sour cherry aroma. Slightly flat on the carbonation. I have to admit, I’m a little critical when it comes to fruit beers. IMO, this one was more enjoyable than the NG Cherry Stout, as it was heavier on the stout than the cherry, but not quite as good as Bells Cherry stout, which I really liked. Pretty decent brew overall.

Growler. Black death color with no head. Slightly sour malt aroma with chocolate. The taste is a very nice full chocolate and coffee mix that avoids being heavy and syrupy. Actually, the body is a little on the light side. The sourness makes another little appearance and once told there are cherries in the beer, you can tell that’s what it is. Damn fine.

Rich, chocolate, fruit aroma. Opaque body. Light brown head that is mostly diminishing. Small layer of head on top. Tannins, sour, dark chocolate. If I didn’t know this was a cherry beer, I wouldn’t have picked that out, however, knowing it is in there, I can attribute the sourness to the cherries. I, like CharlesDarwin, don’t detect much bourbon barrel aspect. Coffee, chocolate aftertaste. A really excellent and awesome brew. Thanks Robertsreality for hooking me up out of your growler.

Black Coloring with Espresso Ring. Rich Malt, Light Alcohol and Cherry Aroma. Sweet/Tart Cherry Flavors Layered Into Rich Malt with a Dry Coffee Bourbon Taste. Creamy Mouthfeel. Burnt Caramel Ending Comes Out Later. A Potent and Complex Creation.
