ElGaucho (1721), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Feb 9, 2003 One of my top two highest rated beers at Winterfest in St. Paul on 2/8/03. (the other being Barley John's Old Eight Porter) Strong alcohol mouthfeel. Discernably Belgian and very sweet and tasty.
beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Oct 24, 2007 On-tap at the brewpub: A nice surprise to see this on the board out of how many times I’ve either missed it or just didn’t review due to being at a beerfest. Well worth the wait...
Limpid light brownish orange color, quite hazy looking with a very thin capping of white foam mostly sitting at the edges. Small bits of lace graze the 10oz glass within which it was served. And at only $3.00 for the 10oz, was a pretty good price I thought.
Light aroma of berries, pear, and Belgian candied sweetness. Quite fresh and fruity with a bit of caramel to its backing, but altogether a bit too light. Would’ve been great to have this be much more forward on the nose.
However, taste wise this was quite the spectacle of yummyness. Nicely soft, clean, creamy berryness ensues with a oily ease of lightly sweet sugaryness of fruit juices and malt. Notes of pear, apple, candied orange, and raisin begin to develope but stays favorably well-balanced with a big malty soothing undercarriage of caramely goodness and straight forward malt tone of sweet fruits. I really enjoyed the taste of this one. Has great fruity flavors and an altogether big malt body giving it a soothing creamy, nearly silky ease in texture to go down. Soft fulfilling rich malty finish lets off a sliced smidgeon of heated spice too. Yum.
Feel is pretty malty smooth. Just about medium with a lightness to it at frist but grows expedentially as it goes. Creamy, soothing, soft, subtle, and caring nature of carbonation and overall body. A relaxing comfortable brew to behold. Great flavor profile and malty richness thats well-balanced and not to over eager and boozy. Listed at 8%, this was a fucking gem compared to the Blue Label reserve dubbel.
Had 2 of these without any problem. A very nice brew. Again, to bad that for the most part, Fitger’s flat out refuses to growler they’re bigger brews such as this. As I begged for one, and only left with a Starfire Pale instead.
hellomynameis (743), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Oct 2, 2007 This was pretty good, but didn’t really feel like much of a tripel. Brown amber body with a ring ofr head. banana and some other fruit yeast aroma. Bit of alcohol with some pepper, banana, and some thick sweet maltyness with hints of alcohol here and there. ryan (1697), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Sep 24, 2006 GTMW 06. After trying the El Nino and Redbeard from Fitgers, I figured they couldn’t miss. Oops. Slight haze, muddy amber body with no head. The aroma is banana and apricots. The flavor is apricots, peach, banana and pepper, fairly sweet. Full, sticky body. CharlesDarwin (1379), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 24, 2005 Orange-tinted hazy dark golden pour, with no head, except for a white rim. Estery fruit profile wafts, backed with sugary sweet malt notes. Oily orange flavors, backed with a strong ester and hexane profile. Alcohol is absorbed in the front end, making a beautiful, hardly noticable appearance. Carbonation is light. Back end of flavor profiule is extremely sweet, with a good kick of orange, apricot and fresh yeast. Hops are limited to distant notes. Palate is coating, with a sugary honey dry oak aftertaste. badgerben (3066), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Nov 11, 2004 Goldish color. Sweet aroma with a bit o’ spice. Tangy taste to be sure... A little sweet as well along with some malt. There is some maltiness that comes in at the end. The alcohol wasn’t particularly well hidden. Odd Tripel.
