Growler 2007 vintage. Poured a murky ruddy brown color with red highlights. The head was thin, consisting predominantly of soap bubbles. Smelled of brown sugar, molasses, and dried dates. Full bodied, smooth, and sweet with lowish carbonation. The flavor was malt-dominated and included the likes of molasses, brown sugar, toffee, and dark fruits. There was also a bit of booze and some subdued grass. The brown sugar was particularly distinct into the finish. Mild bitterness emerged at the end. Good stuff.

’07 Vintage. From a growler acquired from the brewery and stashed in my suitcase. Very murky and dark brown pour. Sweet, dark fruity aroma, some raisins, very nice. Very smooth and slightly warming, slight bitterness, very good. This was a big hit with everybody at Hangar 24. I have to give big thanks to the guys at Fitgers for comping this after I gave them a couple of six packs of Hangar beers, big thanks.

Winterfest 2009 - ’07 version. Pours a dark brown. The nose of dried cherries, cranberries and dates at first. Quite earthy. Comes across the palate heavy on oak and peat in a dark honey. The finish is fruity alcohol with a bitter grapefruit juice burst. Palate is noticeably thin.

Shadowy and dark oak brown. Aroma of dried cherries, cranberries and dates at first. Very earthy. Maple syrup and wild rice take this in a new direction which anticipates the flavor quite nicely. Heavy with wet oak and peat, glazed in a dark honey. A hot singe of plastic, fruity alcohol at the finish with a bitter grapefruit juice burst. Palate is noticeably thin, highlighting the fire accidentally. Lacks sufficient malt strength to combat this, or to provide a substantial foundation. Quite loose around the edges and a bit underdone.

Sample at pub. Brown/orange with a thin head. Aroma and taste of sugar, alchohol, a bit of fruits. A bit sweet for my taste.

2005 Barley Wine, tasted in June 2007. Hazy brown, chestnut, red-peach colors. Extremely good first impressions. Smooth, complexity of raisin, spice, with a nice nut finish. Well done. (on tap at brewpub)

2005 aged version. A sweet and alcoholic barleywine. Some fruit in the aroma. Lots of sugar in the flavor. Hops come out in the finish and they are dry and bitter.
