Opaque with a dark pitch hue. Quickly dissipating off-white head. Aromas of cocoa dust, toffee, coffee, dark dried fruit and toast. Quite a complex nose. Medium to full bodied with a changing palate. Sweet inital malts then a good blast of carbonation. Finishes bitter with a lingering tingle. Quite good. Nice coffee astringency and toffee sweetness. Well done. Dogbrick (2855), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Rings of lacing on the glass. Roasty aroma of coffee and malt plus a bit of dark fruit. Medium, dry body with flavors of coffee and hops along with roasted malt in the background. The finish is malty with a cocoa and coffee aftertaste. Above average overall. topherh (915), Kearney, Missouri, USA

But as you work your way through, the baltic aspect settles and you are left with a fairly traditional porter. TAR (2093), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 12, 2006 Draft: Deep chestnut. Dense light-beige head slowly dwindles. Charming nose of earthy roast, baker’s chocolate, vanilla, and black currants. Silky body with a light carbonic prickle. Vague grittiness initially bolsters the lush malt softness as a rich dose of chocolate-covered raisins quickly ensues. Beautifully restrained char gently brushes the roof of the mouth and lends a hint of dryness. Hint of nuttiness deepens the roast. Brisk cookie malt leanings emerge late, but the overall texture remains soft despite this, as a plum and vanilla nougat cushion underlies the deeply roasted malt hull finish. A superb lightweight Baltic. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA
