Braudog (3463), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Nov 28, 2004 Brewpub visit 11/04 ... Shiny amber brew, very still with little head. Dirty, earthy flavors with a sweet grassy finish. Almost flat, but otherwise nice British style in the heartland. harlequinn (2746), Tacoma, Washington, USA Aug 10, 2006 (Cask) - A very nice bit of fruitiness, and a aromatically floral nose, dry hopped whitbread. Has a bit of creamy maltiness, but as otheres have said and I agree this does have a very dry bitter feel on the palate. Other than that it is very good and easy to drink. Great lingering finish. Sledge Jr (2720), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Dec 2, 2005 On tap at the brewpub. Lighter color than their pale ale. Classic golden and a little bit cloudy. Very very hoppy. Leaves the tongue dry and a little bit in pain. Harsh hop finish. Earthy scent, maybe a little pungent. Musty taste in a good way. mellow maltiness. Silphium (2028), Lansing, Michigan, USA May 17, 2004 Poured from a growler humulus brought to Ohio from Missouri. This is perhaps the most hop-dominated beer I’ve ever tried. That’s not to say I haven’t tried beers with higher IBUs (I am sure I’ve sampled several), but I have never tried a beer that was so dominated by Goldings hops. First things first. This beer poured ruddy, cloudy orange with a thin off-white head. The aroma was strangely soft and of sweet (caramely) malt. Boy, was I unprepared for the hops assault on my palate- tasting this beer was like sucking on a mouthful of oily Goldings hop pellets. The oily, earthy, spicy almost chemical flavor of these hops was just too overbearing, leaving a foul, harsh bitter flavor in my mouth long after the sip. The touch of sweet malt is drowned by the hops. Almost undrinkable IMO. But I’m sure humulus disagrees... Terminus (1955), Illinois, USA Dec 16, 2005 tap at brewpub. pours light orange with a small soapy white head and some very thick lacing. light diacytl on the aroma with some notes of cocanut, orange and mangos. very lite pine. dry earthy hop notes very resinus and dry, almost gin like in its dryness. not overly bitter, just resinous. lots of astringency on the finish. I would say a very authentic display of a british ipa with its use of british yeast (ringwood?) and earthy hop tones. maybe a little too much hops however.
