Commercial Description:
Dunkel refers to a dark lager. Our version is brewed with six malts, four of which are roasted for color and flavor. Hopping is low to allow the malt flavors to dominate. A classic German yeast strain is used for fermentation.

Growler. Malty lager with sweet flavor. I agree with other rating. It had a trace of barley wine to it. And yeah, barley wines are not lagers. Still, it had that taste. Ok all around. A bit flat.

On tap at the brewpub. This was a part of the "Vintage Ale" series. Brewed in 2004, this has been aged in the keg for well over a year. Amber brown in color with no head. Very little carbonation. You experience an explosion of flavor with this one: early tartness, roasted overtones, berry-like scent, roasted nutty toffee. This is on its way to being a junior barleywine. I’d say it has a chocolate-covered raspberry taste. Raspberry chocolate brown ale would have been a better name for this. Pretty remarkable.
