Commercial Description:
Black Helicopter is a coffee oatmeal stout made with locally roasted Columbia coffee beans from Paradise roasters in Ramsey, MN. What makes this coffee beer different you ask? This is the first beer of its kind made with coffee brewed on a Clover machine, which uses a unique mechanism for extracting the subtle and complex flavors of a coffee bean. Don’t miss this chance to taste this one of a kind brew.

Dark liquid pour with a finger thick tannish head. Coffee nose. Definite coffee flavor with a hint of lactose as well as cocoa. If you like coffee you will like this. Very smooth.

(draft) Brown-black body topped by brown head. Aroma is medium sweet, coffee, light roast. Taste is medium sweet, watery coffee, decent roasty bitterness, light cherry. Light-medium body, low carbonation.

[Tap] Pours black with a finger of tan head. Aroma is bittersweet chocolate and some fresh brewed coffee. Flavor is fairly assertively coffee, but not overly bitter. Medium mouthfeel, with a roasted barley and coffee finish. Overall, a great coffee stout.

Thin head, watery black. Nose is coffee, bitterness, not much else, pretty one-dimensional. Which, conveniently enough, is pretty much what it tastes like. If you put a glass of weak, cold coffee in front of me in a blind test, I’m not sure I could tell the difference. Annoyingly undercarbonated. Bleah.

Tap at Happy Gnome. Black color with a thin head. Solid aroma of coffee, chocolate and milk. Lots more of all of those in the flavor. The coffee turns slightly bitter towards the finish with some roasted malt quality, too. Something seemed just a little different (in a good way), but very hard to nail down. Maybe fruity? I’m sure it’s not meant to be overblown like Tyranena’s Brewers Gone Wild coffee beers; Flat Earth just doesn’t do that. It’s very well done.

This a different coffee stout than anyone I had ever had. Its jet black with a grayish thick creamy head. aroma is pitch black cold coffee, very pleasing. It looks and pours somewhat similar to a guiness. the mouthfeel is super smooth and creamy. It has very low carbonation, and not much in the way of anything bitter or roasty. Its like a coffee guiness in a way. I loved it. It very different and very tasty!

Had this beer at Beer Fest in Minneapolis. FANTASTIC! If you espress/dark coffee, dark chocolate, and dark stouts, you’ll LOVE this beer! I didn’t notice the metallic flavor at all. Also, would say that it’s ANYTHING but "thin & wattery". This beer is & stays substantial from the very first sip. Not excesiively dry on the finish like some other stouts. Highly recommended, if you can find it!

Nice black color, small tan head with decent lacing. Lots of coffee in the aroma, chocolate, and roast in the aroma. The flavor is solid, but a little disappointing. Lots of coffee and oatmeal as the beer hits the tongue, but this quickly transforms into a slightly unpleasant metallic flavor. Palate is thin and watery, but relatively smooth. This is a tasty beer, but I can’t help but feel that this could have been a truly great brew- as is I would call it merely good.
