JK (2945), Richfield, Minnesota, USA May 23, 2009 I didn’t care for this one. It is a great idea but something went wrong. There is an aroma and flavor of cough syrup. Light sweet, nice appearance, dark brown with pink foam. It is a great idea that needs refinement, and I have no doubt Jeff can pull it off. badgerben (3586), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Dec 19, 2008 Growler courtesy of Skyview. Dark brown color with a small head. Big cherry aroma and a little dusty. Dark cherry and grape flavor. Rounded out with chocolate. Not as screaming in flavor as The Trees, but solid. Guerde (693), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Dec 17, 2008 growler from Skyview. Pours dark brown with a tan head that is slightly red. The aroma is nothing but maraschino cherry and chocolate cake. The flavor is not all that pleasant, with cherry cough syrup combined with roasted malt and chocolate that leads to a roasted finish. The cherry becomes very cloying. Mouthfeel is medium, and this beer, like the hazelnut porter, is excessively carbonated. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Nov 20, 2008 Available via growler and sampled at the brewery on November 20, 2008. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a fast dissolving beige head that dissipates to a film top. Side of disk top has some red highlights in light reflection. Aroma of dark chocolate, Vicks cherry Nyquil or Halls cherry cough drop, a touch of coffee and some molasses. Taste is medium to full bodied, hardly no carbonation, smooth, with a distinct black cherry that is slightly stronger than the toasted dark malt flavor. Finish has a mild bitterness with a short lived cherry and dark malt aftertaste.
