| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 9, 2009 Growler purchased from the brewery opened later that night and oh boy was this a gusher. Ever seen a gushing growler? Well its awesome. The had fades quickly though once it is poured into my white wine glass, Aroma is all peppermint, that is it it has taken over. I can pick out just some light hints of chocolate. Taste is still all peppermint but a bit more chocolate coming through. So fun to drink especially when, out of nowhere, a few peppermints leaves pop out of the growler at the end. Tripplebrew (493), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 5, 2009 Pours a dark rootbeeresque color with tan head. Aroma is toasted malts and peppermint sugar. Light notes of dark chocolate. Flavor is a peppermint chocolate with toasted malts at the finish. It leaves a crisp, cold refreshing feel to the tongue just like fresh spearmint. Body is medium but with quite a bit of carbonation. A very unique and well done beer. The flavors blended well together and were very refreshing for a porter, a style that can be a bit heavier. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 31, 2008 Growler picked up at the brewery 12/31/08. Pours a deep brown almost black color with a lingering minimal foamy head. Flavor is initially a bit sweet, not overly so. Very quickly rolls into peppermint and spearmint notes, ends on a lingering mild dry mint milk chocolate note. Mint is big here, with notes of chocolate and roasted malt. Medium bodied, a bit fizzy. Surprisingly this turned out pretty well, I figured that it would be cloying and annoying. Well done, first beer of this style that I’ve heard of. Skyview (4045), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 22, 2008 Sampled at the brewery and via growler. Even the growler had a small candy cane attached - cool. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a fast dissolving beige head that dissipates to a fine beige ring. Aroma of distinct mint character containing spearmint, peppermint a touch of clove, raisin and some toasted dark malt. The mint over over powering. Taste is medium bodied with flavors of various mint flavors of wintergreen, spearmint, peppermint and some cloves. Finish has a complex flavor that changes from spearmint, to mild peppermint, toasted dark malt with a lingering iced tea and toasted dark malt aftertaste. Lots of personality in their special Christmas porter.
