JK (2946), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Jul 28, 2009 Lightly roasted malt. Very light hops. A little thin on the palate. Some grain, and surprisingly a little citrus. Good palate, like all of these Cygnus beers. DalzAle (476), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA May 17, 2009 Growler picked up from the brewery last week. Dark black pour, plenty of carbonation and rich aroma of black licorice and some chocolate. Flavor was rich creamy vanilla, peppery spice and finished with a ton of black licorice on the aftertaste. A very good beer, but I’m glad I shared the growler with friends as I couldn’t drink more than one glass in a sitting. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Nov 17, 2008 Available via growler and sampled at the brewery on November 6, 2008. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a fast dissolving beige/off-white head that dissipates to a film top. Aroma of dark chocolate, black licorice/ouzo, a touch of coffee and vanilla. Taste is full bodied, light carbonation, smooth, with a strong black licorice flavor that over-powers the toasted dark malt character. Finish is smooth, mild bitter with a lingering black licorice aftertaste. Actually, this was a pleasant surprise infused porter. I would enjoy seeing this one again.
