Very dark ruby-red (almost black) with thin tan head and slight lacing.
Aroma of smoke, roasted malts, chocolate, brown sugar and some spiciness.
Dry roasted malt with notes of dark chocolate, smoke and coffee. Turns more bitter at the end due to both a spicy and metallic bitterness.
Low carbonation, smooth medium body, exceedingly dry throughout.
About as dry as a Porter can get - which I like. Hard to stop drinking.

There were warning signs that something was amiss when I found this on clearance at a local store. Nonetheless I pulled the trigger (is $1.99 really that much of a risk?). The result was a total letdown; I’d rather drink almost anything else than try to finish more than five ounces of this. I would like to give it a second chance though if I can get a bottle that does not show signs of having gone catastrophically wrong.
Aroma / Appearance - The huge amount of head for such a minute amount of black liquid was warning sign one that something was amiss. Already committed I discovered sign two in an aroma that was like coffee left to sour and then thinned with water.
Flavor / Palate - Overly carbonated the mouthfeel was way too aggressive in surging towards the throat. A curious mix of blueberries, coffee, and tea leaves did not leave me wanting to polish off the rest of the bomber so down the drain it went. I hope fresher bottles make it around the country at some point but for now if you see this on the shelf and don’t know the provenance I suggest buyer beware. Even with the most careful pour, this was nothing but tight foam, sour, tart, like a sour ale. Certainly no porter. (#3611, 15 July 2009) JaBier (1219), Capital City, Ohio, USA
