Pours a dark, cherry cola color; light tan head with fine-bubbled lacing. Lots of chewy chocolate, roasted coffee, and dried fruits in the aroma; light spice. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: well-roasted coffee, plenty of chocolate, and chewy dried fruits; relaxed carbonation; silky smooth presence in the mouth, with lots of roasted / chocolate / bready notes. Medium, dry finish: coffee, dark chocolate, and lingering mineral hop bitterness; mouthdrying. GG (1678), NorCal, California, USA

This is just an outrageously tasty beer. Just sublime. Perfectly balanced is the key here. A nose of iced coffee, hazlenut, chocolate, dark brown sugar...man...nice. Appearance is dark chocolate/near black in color with a nice two finger thick head. Mouthfeel is creamy, silky smooth and oh so balanced with the carbonation. Flavors...whew...flavors are just mouthwatering coffee, roasted malts, nicely hopped, caramel. Reminds me of eating some kind of See’s chocolate. The roasty bitterness and the sweet malts really hit it off. Amazingly easy to drink. Highly recommended. keoki182 (305), West Bend, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 26, 2008 Bottle pours almost black with a nice bright and contrasting head - pretty. The aroma is maple syrup, fresh toast, coffee, a lot like a pancake breakfast. The flavor is of semi sweet dark chocolate, coffee, some fruitcake, and just a touch of lingering bitterness. The palate is medium bodied with some decent carbonation to clean up after itself. Overall, my favorite from these guys. Listened to the namesake - Rush Cygnus X-1 while drinking this. Well done!
