Commercial Description:
UFO experts claim that this element combined with another element make UFOs fly. A true American style beer made with lager yeast fermented at warmer ale temperatures gives this beer a slight fruity character yet remains crisp and refreshing. What kind of beer is it? It depends on whom you ask. Some will call it a West Coast lager, some a California Common and other still will say amber hybrid. We hopped this beer with four different west coast varieties of hops, Northern Brewer, Cluster, Simcoe and Mt. Hood.

Nice golden/copper color. No real aroma. Flavors of wheat, banana and some hop bite in the finish. Very Saison like. Pretty good.

22oz bottle. Pours a deep copper with barely a head. Nice hop aroma with some malt. Crisp flavor with mostly hop, but not so much that it does not fit the style. Pretty good, and waaaaay better than I was expecting.

A nice steam beer (I refuse to call it California Common). Aroma was so so. There’s a spiciness to it that I wasn’t expecting. Pour was a beautiful clear amber with a puffy one finger near tan head. Clear and crisp. Taste was good but odd. There is a strong astringent bitterness to it that I don’t associate with steam beer. The hops create a resinous film on the throat that don’t let any malt through. Not bad.

Sample at the holiday beer tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 11/13/08. Pours a clear orange color with a medium thin and foamy light beige head that diminishes steadily. Dense spots of lacing. Sweet malt and yeast aroma with notes of citrus. Light body with a decent amount of hops flavor, as well as fruit and malt undertones. The finish is mild hops and citrus, leaving a fruity aftertaste. While probably not among the best Steam beers I have tried, it was better than expected.

22 oz bottle courtesy of heemer77 at the 10/18 tasting. Pouris mostly clear golden orange, smallish off white head. Aroma of woody wheat dough and maltiness. Taste has the bready maltiness, with a crisp bitterness to the finish. Clean, though not much going on. Palate is a little oily.

The body was dark gold amber with a light khaki colored head. The aroma was strong with buckwheat pancakes. This was overall earthy. The taste was lightly bitter with some bread crust. There was also a little bit of walnuts. Decent.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium amber. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (apricot, orange), trace yeast (basement), with light notes of dried mango and black tea. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly astringent. Decent stuff, and thankfully not infected. In a blind tasting I would guess a British bitter or an APA. Interesting and enticing subtlety in the nose (dried tropical fruit and black tea stand out), and a good quaffing balance. Not exactly exciting, but definitely solid.
