MatSciGuy (627), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA Mar 15, 2009 [Tap] at Stub and Herbs. So this is really what I was hoping the Rode Haring was going to be. Pours an orangish red with a small beige head that quickly effervesces. Aroma is tart, acetic bacteria, cherries, and some balancing oak. Flavor is really nice and tart all the way across the palate, with the cherries and a touch of vinegar lingering. Very good beer. Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Jan 17, 2009 Growler courtesy of DalzAle. Pours a clear mahogany with a dissipating white head. Smells of tarte cherries, some residual sugar, some grassy hints. Tastes tarte and subdued with some dryness on the finish. Some peppery splashes are present as the beer warms. I like that this is tarte without being overly acidic. Excellent beer! bconley (351), Fern Park, Florida, USA Jan 7, 2009 Beerlando brought a growler of this tasty one. Nice brown body. Very tangy smell. I like dchmela’s description of it as a "barnyard type aroma". The woodiness the other guys talked about was pretty weird, but I still liked it. Lives up to it’s description of being a sour. Really cool sour fruit flavors. This was a good one. GodOfThunder (855), Orlando, Florida, USA Jan 6, 2009 Thanks to Beerlando (I think) for this one. Pours a clear bronze color with a small white head. Aroma is funky and dusty with some cherry fruitiness. Flavor is sour and full of fruit. I pick out cherries and peaches with ease. Good. Beerlando (2283), Orlando, Florida, USA Dec 18, 2008 Growler. Pours mostly clear, light crimson in color with pinkish highlights. A small, fizzy, off-white head is quickly fleeting, soapy lacing mostly rejoining the body. The aroma shows notes of fresh, tart cherries, virgin American oak, dusty farmhouse yeast, and a very mild peppery, herbal element. Flavors show more tart cherries, with heaps of vanilla and aggressive, dry, new oak woodiness. Balsamic notes try to peek through, but the oak is so imposing that it dominates some of the underlying complexities. Medium bodied, with lively carbonation, the finish is dry, crisp, and refreshing, as any good sour should be. Overall, this is a nice sour, but the aggressive oak detracts from it a bit. dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA Dec 18, 2008 Thanks to Beerlando for hooking up a growler of this!! Pours a reddish brown with a thick white head. Very funky, cherry, fresh oak and barnyard type aroma. Very fragrant. Nice light fruit, cherry, fresh cut wood barrel, sour vinegar taste. The flavors seem to mesh nicely, without anything being to harsh. The fresh wood flavor might have come through a little too much, maybe needing to have an older warmer barrel taste to it because the fresher wood seems to be very noticeable. Although not a sour fan, I can say that this was an exceptional beer because of the drinkability that doesnt knock you over and lets you enjoy the flavors. Good stuff. DalzAle (474), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA Nov 27, 2008 Sample tasting at the brewery this afternoon. I’m not generally a person who likes sour beers all that much, but this is probably the best I’ve had in quite some time. Poured a burnt orange color and had a very pleasant sour aroma. I really agreed with my wife’s description--> a tart Wisconsin cherry beer with a nice dry finish. Although the price of the growler ($27) was a little higher than I planned on spending today, it was well worth it!! Get some while you can. tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Apr 25, 2008 Draft at Arborfest. Aroma is mildly tart. Some light vinegar and cherry skin. A touch of perfume and candle wax. Some honey sweetness as well. Pours hazy gold/orange. Flavor is lightly tart. Orange rind. Very mild with a good dose of dry, and not so sour yeast. Medium bodied with an odd waxy texture. A decent effort, but I was hoping for a bit more.
