Commercial Description:
Dutch for Red Herring, a distraction from the reality. Rhode Haring has a sharp sour and tart aroma and flavor mixed with a mild fruitiness created by special yeast strain. We aged this beer for over a year before blending it with a fresh batch of beer.

67 out of 500--750mL bottle from tytoanderso--thanks Tyler! Clear orange with a one finger off-white head, fading to a thin ring. Sour cherries and wet paper are dominant. Flavor has some old sourness going on with some sour cherries. There is a little bit of caramel, but malts tend to be of the stale saltine variety. The finish is semi-dry with bitterness around a 2-3, sourness around a 3. Low to moderate prickly carbonation with a medium body. Not bad, but far from rockin’.

750ml from tytoanderso - thanks, sensei! Dullish brown/red pour with some faint but prickly carbonation. Nose is far more astringent than I’d expected, not so much fruity tartness as lambic tartness. That impression is borne out in the taste, which also contains a bit of diacetyl along with some faint cherry pits and a dry finish. A noble effort but not a winning one.

Poured reddish brown. Aroma of fruit and sour cherry. Taste was tart and vinegary. Light malt and some sourness. Not to my taste.

750mL bottle from Dalzale. Thanks! Looking forward to trying this, as I love sours. Amber color. Low carbonation. Slight oxidized smell, that I rarely notice in sour beers. Not that sour. Low in flavor. Nice brett aroma. No funk. Needs a little somethings. Not as good as I was hoping, but I think a small modification could fix it.

Poured a slightly hazed copper color with an off-white head. Light tartness and mild cherry skin and stones in the aroma. Some sweetness with a buttery diacetyl note to the background. The flavor was on the light side as was the tartness. Dull and bland.

Bottle received in a traded, shared at puzzl’s house. Pours a dark blood red body with a yellow one finger head. Light cider vinegar. Tart woody balsamic accents with a medicinal dry band aid notes. Not very good.

Bottle shared by BrianK, thanks. Skunky and malty, cellar, malty sweet and a touch of sour aroma. A bit more lacto/tart aroma, but an incredibly thin body with minor, malty sourness. Very unexpressive, balsamic vinegary and thats about it.

Bottle, thanks to WeeHeavySD for sharing! Pours a murky amber-brown with a white ring. Aroma of sour tart cherries and sweeter malt, with citrus and apples. Taste is sour and clean, of cherries, apples, lemon, and a hint of funk. Mild lingering juicy tartness. Very refreshing.
