Commercial Description:
Named “Roy’s Imperial IPA” after FLBC Owner Terry Leonard’s grandfather Roy, this is a big kick-butt IPA! Coming in around 75 IBU’s and 8.5% alcohol by volume, this beer is not for the faint of heart! Roy Bishenaur was a 30 year veteran of the US Navy, serving in all the major battles in the South Pacific and North African campaigns during World War II. This beer is our tribute to Roy and all of those who have and are currently serving our great nation!

Copper pour with off-white head. Big hoppy floral notes. Flavor is all hops, really not over the top, but is paired well with a nice malt backbone that works great! Nice big bitter finish, that leaves you wanting a little more to this high alcohol gem.

Brewpub tap. This batch is 9.8%. Clear orange amber, big passionfruit and citrus aroma, sweet. Perfect harmony between equally generous sweet malt and cascade hoppiness. Very bitter finish. A big beer that satisfies perfectly.

On draught at the Flanagan’s Central Station in Whitefish, Montana. Pours a semi-hazy orangish amber brew with a thick and slow dissipating off-white head. Excellent lacing during the dissolve and sampling. Aroma of sweet grapefruit, some citrus zest with a light caramel malt. Taste is thick, medium to full bodied, slightly tart with a grapefruit flavor. Finish is slightly tart, dry and a lingering grapefruit aftertaste. Good marks for this West Coast Double IPA style brew.

Draft half-pint at the brewery taproom. Pretty light in color but a nice firm foam head. Deeply resiny hop aroma. Mildly strong but without being over-done. Warming, although subtlely so. This is a very, very well done "big" beer that’s just not too big, as some can be. Nice welcome to Montana. (#2859, 5/12/2007)
