JorisPPattyn (4275), Antwerpen, Belgium Nov 1, 2005 Huge, yellow-brown head, dense and firm as whipped cream; opaque dark red-brown beer. Dry, woody nose, green leaves aromas. Dry, nonsweet dark malts and ambrée malts, caramel & toffee. Liquorice flavour without sweetness, unidimensional dark malts taste, empty. Flavour like extremely watery black tea. Like chewing a totally out-chewed branch of liquorice. Impossible combination of a thick malty texture and a totally empty palate. Certain slickness, dry and - did I mention empty? "Boring" is much too good for this. It is not revolting. In fact, I’m at my wits’ end. This is supposed to be the same as Affligem dubbel, and as Postel bruin. They couldn’t be more different, all three of them.
jerc (3114), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 17, 2008 2008-03-08. Dark amber body with a good sized beige head. Dusty malt aroma, tangy malt. Sweet tangy malt flavour, light fruity notes, sugars. Slightly fuller than average palate is quite effervescent. (3+) Decent, average Belgian. Bottle from Delhaize, last minute sampling session at my hostel, Brussels TrefwoordPunk (366), Leiden, Netherlands Dec 24, 2007 Bottle 33 cl. Pours brown with a small off-white head and a thin sweet smell. Flavor is strongly sweet, malty (seems there are roasted malts in it too), caramel and brown sugar. Some spices, some bitter hops, some chocolate, I really like it. The flavor reminds of Rochefort 6. Nice hoppy, roasted finish. I really like it Stefano (974), Esbjerg, Denmark Dec 8, 2007 Ruby body with a fluffy off-white head. Strong malty aroma, sweet fruits & caramel. Sweet malty flavour with a liquorice bitter finish. Creamy textured. NoiZe (893), Zeist, Netherlands Oct 3, 2007 Amber/brown colored brew. Spicy, sweet, malty aroma. A bit roasted, malty flavor, but lacks full flavors. It’s kinda dull. Kirill (238), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jul 30, 2007 very hoppy for a dubbel but still retaining the sugary and fruit notes.. quite nice and long aftertaste of all of these things
