A Mes rate: 33cl bottle at Kerstfest, Essen.
Rich amber colour with a decent beige head. Sweet yeasty aroma with caramel and spice. Similar flavour with bread, earth and fairly clear alcohol.

Deep chestnut pour slicked with yellowish suds. Big brandyish nose swilling with dark fruit, caramel and toffeeapple-ish esters. A physical chew of grapeskin, handfuls of sticky prune and currant. Loaded with liquorice and brandy-dipped barley wine-like cake and malt loaf flavours. Slightly out of date, and better for it. Sweetish, malt-heavy, sustaining winter sipper drinking like a reinforced, pumped-up, turbo-charged mild. Tasty.

(Bottled) Very dark ruby red with a medium, tanned head. Dryish aroma of roasted malt and Xmas spices. Flavor of cloves, dark fruit, cardamom and ginger. Medium-bodied, dry-ashy palate with medium carbonation. Seems like Florival Brune with just some Xmas spices added. Better than the rest of the series – probably since the spices bring at least some life to the flavor.

Pours a murky brown, with a very lively tan head. Retention was very average. Onto the aroma... quite strong and sticky, with toffee, earthy spice and alcohol. The mouthful is very fizzy, and the balance of alcohol to sweetness/flavour seems to be lacking quite a bit, resulting in some harsh alcohol tones towards the finish. Other flavours were candy, metal and banana. Overall I was not too impressed.

Bottle w/ best by date 28/10/07. Pleasant taste with no overpowering alcohol flavor associated w/ some 9% biers. Finish was long but not bad; no other defining characteristics. I’m unfamiliar with other Florival biers so I can’t comment on its "Christmas" qualities.
