Poured deep brown with very little head sticking around. The aroma picked up lots of sweet vanilla and bourbon sugars upfront with semi-sweet chocolate and molasses not far behind.. toasted oak provided a nice accent. The flavor had caramel, chocolate, molasses, and toffee at the core with a heavy barrel impression (vanilla, oak, and sweet bourbon.. the usual suspects).. sour fruit skins provided an enjoyable accent.. surprisingly well-balanced. Drier, grainy, and calculated on the palate with good sour contrasts.. I really dug this.

On tap at Flossmoor for the pre-DLD event. Pours rich dark brown to maroon colored with a very light head. Smell is fruity, vinuous, tart, oaky and complex. Very unique, dry fruity flavor almost bridging the gap between beer and wine. Very unique and hard to describe as it was unlike anything else I’ve had, but was quite enjoyable.

One of two beers double-fisted for Flossmoor Round 1 at the pre-event last Friday. This beer has a fruity, malty, bourbony smell. With so many beers blended in, it’s hard for any one to dominate. Little if any head covering the mostly black body (a hint of burgundy), but it had more foam than the Sarge. The flavor reminds me of wine. The darker beer flavors taste good, but the sweetness of the fruity beers tend to have more influence. The beer feels heavy and smooth, a great ’big beer’ feel. I left this one alone after one glass so AllAbout Stout could have extra. ;-) Not a bad beer, I just liked the other Flossmoor offerings better.

This was a real treat. Draft at the pre-DLD party.
Pours a dark ruby in color with no head at all. Smell is wonderful bourbon notes with plenty of dark fruits. Two of my favorite attributes to a beer. Plenty of bourbon and dark fruits in the taste as well as some tannins and slight spice. Mouthfeel is medium and very enjoyable. I just couldn’t get away from this beer. Another very well done beer from Flossmoor.

Draft @ Flossmoor, pre-DLD fest, covertly borrowed from nflmvp. Thank you, Steve!! Very dark, murky plum color; mostly headless with a touch of oiliness. Twiggy, bourbony, and intense dried red and dark fruits in the aroma; interesting generous stuff, if slightly messy and stemmy. Full mouthfeel: green, vegetal, stemmy, and dense; gooey dried fruits; tons going on here: first and foremost bourbon, dried red fruits, fruit leather, soft barrel notes. Lengthy finish: dried red fruits, some bourbon and toasty oak.

On tap at the Pre-DLD party. Pours pitch black with a tan head. This beer is all over the place. Has a mixture of aromas that are fused together in one wierd smell. Tastes like several things at once. Vanilla, wheat, fruits, bourbon, oak, roasted malt, and alcohol. Heavy mouthfeel. Interesting brew.

Draft at brewpub. I hate to say that not only does this not only sound like a bad idea, the results are not so good. Plenty of barrel and vanilla, booze, dried fruits, more booze and grape. Really sticky and sweet.Did I mention there was a lot of booze flavor in this? Believe it.
