dm9831 (1167), Monee, Illinois, USA Mar 12, 2008 Updated: Mar 13, 2008pours black, frothy tan head. the nose is mostly medicinal alcohol, with some smokiness and fruit. flavor is whiskey, fruit and some woodiness from the barrel. sweet fruity finish (which knocks it down a point or two in my view). the more i drank it, hte more the sweetness cloyed.

Lightly sweet milk chocolate aroma has some nice oaky bourbon notes. Body starts with a mild earthy dark malty sweetness, a hint of light fruity tartness and vanilla oaky bourbon toward a smooth, dark chocolatey finish. A pretty interesting and enjoyable beer. sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 6, 2007 Updated: Nov 12, 2007tap at FoBAB 07. smells like gin and chalk. yuck! a bit thin. i like it insofar as it’s what ive been looking for in a raspberry RIS, but it doesn’t fully make it.... i didn’t realize while drinking or rating it’s meant to be a milk/sweet stout. so i’ll give it back a couple points on palate/overall. BBB63 (4199), La Porte, Indiana, USA Nov 5, 2007 Updated: Nov 6, 2007FoBAB 2007: As good as the FS 10 was this was just another in a line of disappointing beers. So much so I apologized to Andrew at the fest for my ratings.
Pitch black with a minimal head or lace. Oh no, the dreaded green apple (Acetaldehyde flaw) appears on the nose. I found some fig, chocolate, herbal and grassy notes too.
While I found no raspberry in the aroma there was a nice twang on the palate with a layer of sweet chocolate and vanilla beans in support. The finish is a tad boozy and oaky. The mouth feel is sticky but thin, aggressive and warming. Just could not get into this but would like to see if it improves in the future. chicagodri (1021), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 4, 2007 Had it at the Goose Island Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beer. Good raspberry flavor, but the beer didn’t seem as a hearty of a Stout as I would have liked. I think it could have been a lot heavier, but very good anyway. holdenn (1432), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 2, 2007 On tap @ the Station for Andrews Bachelor Party. Well I’m not the 11th rating, but at least I’ll get it some percentile points. Pours red with a black beige head. Aroma of sour cherries, raspberry, oak, chocolate, and roast. Flavors are chocolate, red fruit, bourbon, and dark chocolate. Balanced really well with a choclate/charred lightly sweet but dry finish. Mmm. Well done. Philip (436), Illinois, USA Aug 14, 2007 GTMW. Flossmoor Station’s beers seem to be underrated almost across the board. Not sure why that’s the case -- they were my favorite tent at the festival. This was one of my last beers of the day, and it was another great stout with fruit added. I enjoyed the bourbon barrel Cherry Stout from Bells just a bit more than this one, but this is an excellent fruit stout as well. It reminded me a bit of blending Dark Lord with New Glarus’ Raspberry beer. Onto the beer, thick, oily, viscous, with notes of dark chocolate and framboise wine. I actually thought my wife might like it given the sweetness, but there was too much stout for her here. Vanilla, soy, raisin, cream and a touch of bourbon on the palate. Well extracted, and well crafted in general. Must be more than 5.5 ABV?!? Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Aug 13, 2007 On tap at GTMW. Poured a deep, garnet-tinted brown with a short cap of deep brown head. Aroma picked up toasty semi-sweet chocolates along with sour fruit.. couldn’t place the fruit.. smelled nice. Flavor was of very well-roasted sweeter chocolates with sour raspberries and very mild vanilla and bourbon presence (didn’t realize this was BA when I got it).. rather simple, but certainly tasty! Creamy on the palate but yields to oak and berry sourness a bit abruptly.. odd sour/sweet contrast on the finish.
