Dark opaque black coloured with a moka head. Sweet cholate cherries in aroma, with notes of vanilla. Rather sour stout with choclate in background, and almost white wine qualities in finale. Pleasant surprise. Medium bodied. BBB63 (4274), La Porte, Indiana, USA

The aroma is quite inviting with the cherry pits and oaky wood versus a charred, bready and caramel mix and then you get some grapey wine and lime leaves esters. The flavor did quite match the complexity of the nose but still shown most of the unique characteristics. Starts cherry tart but finished with a sweet and chocolaty background. Lot of oaky, tannic and acidic undertones. Nicely balanced for all that is going on in the making of this brew. The feel is lush and oily, moderately sticky and finished a bit woody and dry. I dig it, what a noble attempt at something beyond the norm. Get ya some if ever the chance. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 14, 2005 An interesting concept, blending a stout with a kriek. This poured almost black with a weak tan head that evidenced the kriek fizz. The aroma of chocolate and cherries was subtle. Would have liked it more pronounced. Some brown sugar int here and even a little Soave. Medium bodied with a creamy feel. The flavor was also subtle chocolate and cherry, tart and smooth and creamy. Not bad. Creamy texture and rich almost cloying mouthfeel. Very strong sour cherry flavor mixes well with the dry stout chocolate and burnt sugar notes. Very pronounced oak undertones only enhance the experience. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

I like the sharp, tartness of a fruit beer and the chalky stout character with cherries just hasn’t worked for me in the past. I wasn’t expecting much from this one. The aroma has chocolate and cherries with a crisp wite wine style tartness, rich vinous notes. Some wood, but hard to pick out. The cherry stands out more as I swirl it around. I am impressed so far. Dark brown with just a tiny hint of light showing through the edges when I tilt the glass and a small off-white head. Flavor is a mixture of all of the following: vinous, woody, chocolate, cherries and a tart finish. Very good. Medium full body, creamy texture. It is the tartness that does it for me. I liked this one alot. iwantalambic (1389), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 16, 2004 Draught; 2004 Festival of Barrel Aged Beers (Chicago): Black with red gold edges and minimal head…creamy, oatmeal aroma with a dry winey cover. Sweet creamed cherry flavours with a heavy malt bill. The finish turns dry and slightly sour. I think that the barrel turns what would normally have been a nice creamy finish dry and overly sweet…a slight disappointment. JoeM500 (1876), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 15, 2004 Dark red, almost black in color. Nose is vinous with hints of cherry cough syrup and chocolate brownie. tangy on the lips, quite a body, velvety and strange. Chocolate and cherries are present, sort of swirling together the tartness and sweetness, sort of a mash of flavors, nothing like, say, a Bells Cherry Stout. Hints of sour and alcohol fire, with a quick, vinous dryness at the finish. Leaves very little aftertaste.
