lefossoyeur (47), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 11, 2009 Golden Amber with an ever lasting white head. Light nose of citrus and herbal hops. Palate is wonderful, grapefruit, tropical fruits, and a long lasting gentle bitterness with a great malt backbone. Perfectly in balance. A truly great IPA.
Purple wax bottle purchased at the pub. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Oct 2, 2009 Bottle. Poured a hazy amber color. The head was two fingers high and tan. Attractive hop dominated aroma that included the likes of citrus, pine, and flower blossom. There was also some toffee, caramel, and light honey. Medium bodied and sweet up front with moderate bitterness. I tasted distinct ruby red grapefruit, toffee, pine, and earthy hops. Yum. j12601 (1151), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA Sep 12, 2009
Bottle at Captain Lawrence during the release of Smoke from the Oak Apple Brandy Barrel. Pours a hazy brown with a thin white head. Caramel and toffee on the nose, not much hop presence though. The body is rather empty and has some weird flavors going on. Finishes up with a nice grapefruit bitterness, but not enough to really save the beer.
Miver (551), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 8, 2009 22oz bottle w/ purple wax. Poured cloudy copper in color with a large foamy head. Aroma of light lemon citrus, caramel, and oranges. Tastes of caramel malts, citrusy hops, lemon, oranges. A little on the sweet side, but overall not a bad IPA. kseecs16 (865), Naperville, Illinois, USA Aug 17, 2009 Bottle. Aroma is very rich and resinous hops. Dank and sweet. Dark purple hued reddish brown with a big creamy off-white head that leaves gobs of lacing down the glass. Very full bodied with a chocolatey malt body that has a nice roast finish that picks up when the hoppy bitterness subsides. Hops flavor is dank and spicy.
JPDIPSO (4865), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Aug 4, 2009 Purple "wax". Initial burst of foam, was only a sips worth, but the hops are heavy even from that small sample. Hazed dark amber to copper in color. Smallish beige head. Pithy grapefruit and orange peel scents Dominate. Some heavy caramel and darker floor malt in the background. Heavy, but not mouthcoating or cloying in feel. Lightly toasted malt start. Interesting mix in the middle with sweeter, juicy citrus along with light apricots and honey. More bitterness in the finish as some pine pitch seeps in. Nice balance and play between the sweet and the bitter. Linger has a pale caramel and malt sweetness that seems to ask for another swig. HonkeyBra (1274), Lemont, Illinois, USA Jun 11, 2009 Reddish pour with an off white head. Strong hop aroma with caramel and bread. Flavor is more subdued, flavorful hops with nice bready caramelly flavor. A touch of butter scotch. Bitter finish. Pretty good IPA. adrian910ss (1395), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 1, 2009 22 oz purple wax top bomber courtesy of Todd. Pours a dark amber caramel iced tea color with a medium beige head.
