Dark brown, frothy head. Aromas: anise, coffee, chocolate, caramel - - - HEAVILY ROASTED THINGS!!! After each cycle of sniffing, swallowing, absorbing, the tastes and aromas kept changing. Dark dried fruits, chocolate, roasted malts, burnt toffee and caramel, coffee, licorice... all of these and more made themselves known. AND, a BITTER and HOPPY finish!!! Egads. If this drink had a woman’s name, I might consider getting married again. As it is, I guess I’ll have to settle for drinking this beer seasonally.

Foamy espresso head and a roasted chocolate nose. Burnt caramel, sweet coffee and dark chocolate bitterness all ending with tons of hops and a sherry alcohol finish. Very nice beer. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 7, 2003 Very dark with light brown head. Aroma shows chocolate, raisin. Good straightforward imperial stout flavours - rich, slightly burnt, fruity, with brown bread notes. Good, but fairly typical. Volgon (2490), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

Smooth creamy and thick. Starts sweet ends lightly bitter. The barrel aged version was also very good with the whiskey taste dominating the brew. It also seemed to be less creamy than the regular version. (8/5/8/4/16) heykevin (1269), Iowa City, Iowa, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 4, 2003 Nice dark ruby in color, it had been sitting for awhile which allowed the temperature to warm--good for the stout, not so good for the others. Lighter than most stouts, with coco undertones...like backing chocolate. The best Flossmoor had to offer me from my tastings. npdempse (931), St. Petersburg, Florida, USA

Black, with a pillowy tan head. Tar/chocolate/plum/coffee nose. Sweet, simibitter flavor with chocolate, plums, and a hint of coffee. Surprised that it wasn't thicker in mouthfeel (though it was plenty thick). argo0 (6978), Washington DC, USA
