Very dark with light brown head. Aroma shows chocolate, raisin. Good straightforward imperial stout flavours - rich, slightly burnt, fruity, with brown bread notes. Good, but fairly typical.

Black body with a small tan head. Aroma is roasty, light sweet. Taste is moderately sweet, roasty, caramel, hoppy (pine). Full body, slightly sticky.

RBSG2003 Looks like heavily used motor oil. Black as the new moon. Bright day, outdoor seating. The sun couldn't penetrate this brew. No head... doesn't need one. The nose is of espresso, dark, bittersweet chocolate and licorice. The flavor is sweet, but not cloyingly so. Prune, blackstrap molasses, espresso and dark chocolate. Full-bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel and very soft carbonation. Short, sweetish, chocolatey finish. Very, very good sippin' stout!

There is a lot going on in a glass of this brew. Thick black liquid. Dark brown, frothy head. Aromas: anise, coffee, chocolate, caramel - - - HEAVILY ROASTED THINGS!!! After each cycle of sniffing, swallowing, absorbing, the tastes and aromas kept changing. Dark dried fruits, chocolate, roasted malts, burnt toffee and caramel, coffee, licorice... all of these and more made themselves known. AND, a BITTER and HOPPY finish!!! Egads. If this drink had a woman’s name, I might consider getting married again. As it is, I guess I’ll have to settle for drinking this beer seasonally.

Rerate: Reborn nearly two year later, this brew hasn’t missed a beat and I was impressed with the depth of palete and overall flavor complexity. The aroma still needs improvemnet but overall this is one damn solid impy, get ya some!---- Original review: On tap - Opaque dark hole black, tan head, medium lacing. Full-bodied brew has an sweet malty aroma with hints of pine and blackcurrent. Very well balanced beer with a very slight alcohol finish. Oily and lively mouthfeel. Warming. Different from the Eclipse Imperial, recommended.

This brew pours a large head of small to large bubbles that left a good lacing. It had a oipaque black body and a stroing coffee aroma. The flavor was a very smooth coffee one that matched my taste almost perfectly. A very good brew from the folks at Flossmoor Station!

Bottle from TAR. Black color with no head. Hmmm... smells like soy sauce, not a good start. Tastes of barley and not much else. I’m hoping it didn’t hold up well in the bottle.

RateBeer Summer 2003: Black body with tan head. Sweet malty aroma with lots of chocolate. Smooth creamy and thick. Starts sweet ends lightly bitter. The barrel aged version was also very good with the whiskey taste dominating the brew. It also seemed to be less creamy than the regular version. (8/5/8/4/16)
