Commercial Description:
Belgian-style ale aged on raspberries in an oak white wine barrel. Tartness from the wine barrel and some sweetness from the fruit. Belgian bliss!

On tap at Flossmoor the night before DLD - Pours ruby red with a short fizzy head. Aromas of raspberries, oak, and wine. Flavor is raspberry, wine, and slight oak. Fizzy slightly acidic palate. Interesting beer.

Bottle from Rayboy. Pours a cloudy copper with a thin head. Mild raspberries with a vague tartness and hints of wood. The flavors unfortunately seem a bit subdued to make this one really shine.

FoBAB 2006: Amber red in color with a tiny bubbled head. Light aroma of raspberry, cherry and fruit. Sweet fruit flavors raspberry sour, eathiness, and oak with a little alcohol in the finish. Flavor and aroma need to come out more, all of it is way too subdued.

sampled at barrel-aged brewfest. terrible. raspberry megasou aroma. red toffee color. some head. flavor profile is short with a clear, unfulfilling finish. SO thin. SO watered down. miserable. god, that was an unforgiving review.

On tap: Aroma is very oaky with light tart raspberry and subtle vinuous notes. Transparent amber with a small white head. Oak is very strong in the flavor throughout. The tart raspberry flavors are very subdued and dare I say, a tad watery. Finishes with some light vinuous notes and a touch of sour apple.

New brew, at Flossmoor, 1/21/08: A chance at a "fresh" version of this stuff. Red garnet highlights in its little snifter, light skin of foam. Raspberry liquer smell. Taste tends more toward raspberry than malt, but that’s the same for any belgian fruit beer. I taste sourness and think of brett, but I need to remember matt doesn’t have have room to let sour bugs loose in the brewhouse, so this is all from the wood. But that sourness keeps to itself on the sides of my tngue, while a bit of oak comes across the top. Rating gets bumed up a few points from oroiginal 3.5.
Original rating: Oct ’06: Yes, thanks, RayBoy01. This has pretty clearly been stashed for over a year, and a lot of its components have settled to the background. The raspberry, to me, was very subdued, more of a sweet impression that meets up with oak and brett tartness. Some Belgian horsiness, too. Lot of vague impressions that combine for a good overall exotic beer. Glad to have finally had a chance at it!

Poured an amber/vermillion with heavy particulate and a quick, whitish head. Tart, funky aroma with Brett noticable beneath a sour fruitiness. Tart, fruity flavor as well with a dry, thin mouthfeel and some ABV-induced astringence. Thanks to <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=1 RAYBOY01 for the opportunity to sample this.
