Commercial Description:
Belgian-style ale aged on raspberries in an oak white wine barrel. Tartness from the wine barrel and some sweetness from the fruit. Belgian bliss!

This is really interesting...red/brown pour with a rapidly diminshing head. The aroma is of course tart raspberries, but with some funky brett like qualities. Flavors alternate between sweet raspberries and tart yeastiness very nicely. there is a wine-like oakiness underneath everything. A really fine experiment.

Brownish-amber in body with the merest of heads, this had a tart & funky berry aroma that seemed to have a touch of the wild in it. The flavor quickly shifts from sweet to sour with the raspberries tasing both fresh and tart. Nice fruity, acidic finish. This is a model for fruit beers to follow.

Biscuity malts and cookie dough yeast character in the lightly tart and fruity aroma. Clear copper coloured body is topped by a low, off white head. Tart raspberry flavour complements the sweet cookie dough yeast character. Medium body is quite dry with lively, pointy carbonation. Sampled at GABF 2005.

GABF 2005.

Dull decaying copper, almost headless. Funkily blended oak, red grapes, powdered raspberries and earthy vegetal aspects form a rather atypical nose. It grows a fair bit of sweetness in mouth, becoming pie-like, yet remaining fresh and juicy. Good level of astringency accentuates the vinous character. Quite interesting that, I’m growing an appreciation for those belgians aged in wine barrels. In this particular case, the barrel really imparts its oldish tannins, if not all the acidity I’d wish for. Light-medium bodied, sparkling carbonation.

GABF 2005: Golden hue with a small fizzy head. The nose displays a funky yeast ester along with raspberry, sweet grapes, flowery hops, and oaky vapors. The taste is yeasty and sour fruits for sure with a dry and oak finish. The feel is very refreshing and puckering. Nice and different, works for me, just not earth shaking.

Dark gold. Wonderfully vinous with a background note of wood. Incredible fruit flavors/aromas, just like eating fresh-picked raspberries. Satisfying sourness, accented by tart raspberries and cherries. Somewhat drying. Nice level of bitterness. Very good stuff.

09.29.05 Cherries and berries mix with suede and denim. Light and fresh raspberry flavor, oaky roundness tethers any residual berry sourness. Vanilla. Mild and nice.
