| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 4, 2009 Draft pint at FS. This rating temporarily puts me back on top of the "Most Rated By" list for FSRB. But only temporarily. And I’ll give this beer it’s threshold 10th rating: Half-inch head sits tight upon a golden beer with just a bit of haze and few bubbles. Smell tends more to ale fruitiness than most packaged kölsches. Taste starts off with some brief lemongrass. A fresh noble hop bill collects potted flowers with a bit of white pepper. Good malty backbone. Lager character in a clean finish, except for some hoppy aftertaste. Carbonation is just right for prickly hops and ale esters. Cornfield (4940), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 12, 2009 Had a few of these at the mug club tapping. An Imperial Kölsch, perhaps? It had a hazy straw body with a frothy white head and provided loads of lace. The aroma had a yeasty fruitiness covering a grainy sweetness and a splash of alcohol. Lively mouthfeel. It tasted of smooth pale malt, citrus and soft fruit with a peppery, grassy bitterness ringing in at the end. Another tasty brew from "new" brewmaster Bryan Shimkos. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 10, 2009 Attractive, heavily-hazed golden pour with moderately fluffy white head. Nose is yeasty (fruit esters...mainly citrus) and alcoholic...this one sped right past the typical Kolsch neighborhood (4.5%abv or so) into some very shady part of town (6.5%abv) Not exactly something you can drink with carefree abandon. Very fruity esters prominent upfront and dry, peppery hop finish. I’m also used to a lot more effervescence in the style...and this one lacks in the spritzy catagory. Very tasty brew...just not sure about calling it a Kolsch, really...maybe a Belgian Golden instead? holdenn (1443), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 17, 2009 On tap at FS. Pours a clear yellow with a white head. Yeasy and fruit in the nose with a touch of grain but clean and inviiting. Fruity light sweetness with a touch of grapefruit. Slight herbal hops that are lightly bitter. Light, balanced, and tasty with a smooth body. Really drinkable and enjoyable. Well done. FlssmrBrewAlum (1141), Lisle, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 10, 2009 Poured on tap at the brewpub in my mugclub mug (Flossmoor, IL). Missed the tapping yesterday, got it on during my errands today. Pours a nicely hazed slightly muted gold, a bit of straw, big white cakey head that sits atop, laces well, no real dissipation. Very cool. Aromas are slightly fruity, dry and crisp, with sweet malt presence, a bit grainy, a touch of florals. Very good for the style. Initial is light on the palate, fruity esters and refreshing, pushing some banana and pear, cereal maltiness, a touch of creaminess. A very smooth beer with a fairly strong bitterness in the finish for the style. Bitterness and fruit stick to the palate, lemon zest comes in fuller. This beer goes down easy, but the flavors speak for themselves for the style. Hoppier, flavorful, and stronger in ABV than a typical Kolsch. A very nice go at a Kolsch-Style ale for Bryan with a more American spin. Cheers! BeerBunker (607), Burbank, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 30, 2009 On tap at Flossmoor. Pours golden with a white head. Aroma is of malt, hops citrus, spice, and yeast. Has a lot of lemon in the aroma. Taste is of light floral hops, grain, citrus, and yeasy. Has a bready malt backbone that evens it out. Has a lot of lemon zest to it as well. Decent amount of spice to this one. Lingering citrus and spice taste. Has a slight alcohol burn on the finish. Doesn’t taste like much of a kolsch, but it is easy to drink and doesn’t taste half bad. GeneralGao (3057), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
