Glouglouburp (1943), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 26, 2008 In short: A refreshing and very tasty hop-fix. One of the best IIPA I’ve ever had.
How: Tab at brewpub. Pre-Dark-Lord-Day party 2008
The look: Cloudy dark-orange body with a medium off-white head
In long: BIG nose of grapefruits and citrus fruits. Taste expands on the nose. While the caramelized malt backbone is very adequate it is totally outshined by the hopping. Grapefruits, citrus fruits, pine cone juice and some orange. Body is a big fluffy. This beer is tasty, refreshing, juicy and well balanced. Certainly one of the best IIPA I’ve ever had. To compare it to well-known high-class IPAs I’d say that the Pretty Big IPA comes out like a cross between AleSmith IPA and 3F Dreadnaught. Women and IIPAs are really two different beasts. I really enjoy a bitter IIPA but I like a sweet woman, I really enjoy a cold IIPA but I like a warm woman, I really enjoy a Pretty Big IPA but… fiver29 (303), Strongsville, Ohio, USA Apr 26, 2008 On tap at the brewery pours a hazy dark golden color with a white head. Has grapefruit aroma. Tastes like grapefruit, slight pine, and has a smooth sweet honey finish. This is highly hopped for a IPA. Very tasty. brentfeesh (907), Gadsden, Alabama, USA Jun 2, 2008 750ml bottle thanks again to Heemer for sharing at Noog4. Orange-amber pour with a wispy head. Tons of citrus in the nose (apricot, orange) and just a touch of spruce. Very aromatic. YUMMY. Wonderfully integrate fruit flavors run all through this one (primarily grapefruit and orange) with a touch of spruce at the finish and a solid but in no way overpowering presence of caramel. Semi-dry med-full body. Great Stuff. barleyPops (1059), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA May 12, 2008 many thanks to heemer77 ( Eric ) for picking up a bomber of this while on his last beer run, shared with Illini08. pours a hazy amber with a peachy glow. a one finger tan head, settling to decent lace. aroma of grapefruit and ripe mangoes with just a hint of some spice. flavor is a near perfect blend of citrusy hops along with some pine notes followed by crusty bread flavors from the malt. a tip of the cap to the Flossmoor crew, a very well crafted brew! crizay (1070), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA Apr 29, 2008 Growler fill from the Flossmoor gathering. Hazy deep orange pour with a big thick white head that stays big the whole time and leaves lots of lacing. Aroma is just fresh with orange, grapefruit, melon and leafy freshness. Taste is melon, grapefruit, orange with a touch of pine and bitterness in the finish. A very subtle touch of caramel to balance it out with a very thick and full bodied mouthfeel and a spot on carbonation level. This is an IIPA at it’s finest with straight up hop juice and pretty much all base grains with a touch of caramel to balance it and give a touch of sweetness but give hardly any flavor allowing the hops to shine and it’s so freakin thick it’s like having a meal. I’m so glad I got a growler and will drink this all to myself.
