Aroma of walnuts and dry grain with some sour grass notes. Unusually fruity flavor for the style -- raisins and dates -- accompanied by dry grain, medium malt sweetness and a medium hop finish. Slightly thin body and palate like many commercially available iterations. A bit on the fruity side but basically to style. One of Flossmoor’s best. Mangino (1027), Mississippi, USA

It is average brown ale, nutty and malty with a hint of bitter hops. That is all I will say. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 8, 2005 Dark red color with no head. Aroma is sketchy, reminding me of lysol. Strong maple flavor, but not the sticky sweet syrup feel that typically acompanies it. Some nut stands out, I believe hazelnut. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 21, 2005 Nice deep brown color with translucent scarlet accents around the bends. Thin, jiggling and deep tan head. Aroma is questionable, composed of Fabreeze, charcoal, burnt twigs and soggy autumn leaves left under winter’s first snow and reclaimed the following spring. Flavor does a lovely 180. A slight smoky underlay and roasted malts slip in and bring about a cohesive creamy body. There’s a sugary rye trait, some nutmeg and cinnamon, and another element that’s silently screaming "gingerbread cookie." A little pine and cleanser a la Pinesol, but this is a nice beer indeed. Pecans linger in the palate long after the final sip. frankenkitty (1903), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 5, 2005 This multiple award-winnng brew won once as a porter and it’s easy to see why. Poured a dark brown/black with reddish highlights and a small tan head. Heady aroma with pine hops, licorice, and a nuttiness that carried through to the flavor. Tastes additionally mimmicked drinking a chocolate-chip cookie, and held a pleasant, bittersweet end. Full bodied and syrupy, it kept this porter-lover happy.

Roasted nut caramel aroma with dark chocolate notes. Tastes like chocolate malt balls with some nutty notes. I think there are some pine hops in the lightly bitter finish. Full body with a creamy texture.
