guyinchicago (235), marengo, Illinois, USA May 25, 2008 this by far is the best brown ale i have ever had. made with molasses and 7 differnt malts poured the color of porter deep dark brown almost black small head but lots of lacing from this thick creamy monster of a brown.taste of molasses nuts and lots of malts aromas abound very complex. this from a small brew pub very impressive. better than rouges and you can get your own now that they started bottling if you can find it voted best small brew pub in 2006
Rastacouere (5409), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 8, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Tasty and rather full-bodied brown ale.
I like:
Original example with strong maple notes. Effective roastiness manages to attenuate the excessive sweetness. Distinctive and relatively intense. Controlled hoppiness compared to most of their other ales.
I dislike:
Certainly sweeter than most, its flavours almost reach a molasses territory. I’d prefer further developments in the toasty scope. Not particularly complex. The high scores struck me as a surprise compared to the 2.7-2.8 their other regulars gather.
gearbike (373), West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA Sep 30, 2008 Dark brow. Creamy look and taste. Equal combination of nut, chocolate and sweetness make a rather rich creamy brew. Tasty but not outstanding. AndrewKScott (407), Lemont, Illinois, USA Sep 28, 2008 I was really impressed by this ale. Pours brown, with a sweet roasty aroma. Flavor is smooth and smokey. A lot of roastiness, but also some nuts. Great mouthfeel. Easily one of the best Brown ales i’ve ever had. grandridge (160), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA Sep 27, 2008 Bomber, pours dark brown with aroma of caramel and smoke. Flavor is sweet and smooth. Caramel dominates but some smoke and chocolate. Nice malty, nutty flavor. You can really taste the oats in there. One of the best browns I’ve had. Flossmoor does it again. KieferUGA (356), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Sep 21, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours a dark brown with a thin, light tan head. Nutty aroma with hints of roasted oats. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is quite a suprise. Roasted malt, nuts, chocolate all blend perfectly. Finish is slightly bitter and dry.
