Commercial Description:
We set out to create a deliciously hoppy American wheat beer that wasn't as burly as our normal I.P.A.s but still satiated the hophead inside of us. What came out was Rot Geist (Red Ghost) American Red Wheat. It's a reddish hued American Wheat made with Summit, Centennial, and Amarillo hops with an additional dry hopping of 1lb/bbl Amarillo for aroma.

draft at maproom. dark opaque red brown. smell isn’t wheaty at all. hopppy and sourdough. smooth and balanced but hoppy bitterness. great. drinkable. really nothing american wheat about this. pretty much just a good solid beer.

On draft at Map Room, Chicago. Almost reminded me of a rye ale-- with the dry finich and almost chalky mouth feel. A clean after taste with no cloying sweetness. I think I would like to try a version of this beer dry hopped with Centennial instead of Amarillo. It might tone down, yet sweeten up the hop profile a touch to nicely balance with the dry finish.

I have a hard time believing this to be considered an American wheat, but hey, what do I know. Tasted very much like an imperial red. Very much bitterness forward, could have used more malt to back it up, though it finished reasonbly well as it warmed.

I had this on tap during my first-ever visit to the Map Room in Chicago. Appearance was a red hazy with medium head. Aroma was a lot of sweet hoppiness, like an APA. Taste was not the sweet hoppy I expected, rather this beer was more a dry bitterness with a lot of fruitiness, but not the kind of fruitiness I usually associate with hops (that Cascade citrus-fruitiness). It was a more full-bodied fruitiness that hits you in the front of the mouth rather than the hoppy citrus-ness that hits you at the back back of the mouth. There was a deep bitterness that hits the back of the mouth providing a chalky and rough mouthfeel. Not exactly a delight in the mouth, but not bad.

on tap at maproom. pours dark red with creamy reddish-white head. nose is very sweet hops. flavor is really sweet hoppy but not too bitter, lots of grapefruit and citrus. wow lots of raw amarillo hop flavor. it’s more like a hoppy red than say, Gumballhead, but it’s delicious. i could get drunk off this stuff. haha. what’s new? anyways, this beer is rich, creamy, hoppy, sweet, and really sessionable.

Growler at Rayboy01’s Cajun Fais Do Do. Sweet hop aroma. Cloudy amber body with some lace. Sweet hop flavor. Excellent brew! Very enjoyable. Amarillo hops are evident.

On tap @ the Brew pub: Pours a clear amber color with an off white head. Aroma, caramel, light toffee notes, some wheat, bready, and some citrus. Flavor, caramel, wheat, with some big citrus flavors as well. Smooth medium body with a nice earthy bitter finish to it. Very nice stuff.

Draft at Radio Maria in Champaign, IL. Pours red with a creamy retentive off white head. Aroma of fruity hops and toasted grains. Initial flavor of toasted malt, caramel, and very subtle wheat malts that is quickly countered by a bitterness that is piney, citrusy, and even peppery. Finishes slightly dry. Not as much wheat character as I was expecting. This is sort of like a cross between an imperial red and a dark IPA. Yet another good beer from Flossmor.
