Clear amber, thin off-white head, and somewhat lacey. Diacatyl bombarded nose, diacatyl bombarded flavors...the nose...butterscotch and toff. The flavors, toffee and grassy hops...quite hoppy actually...but diacatyl is everwhere. I wouldn’t rate it but it seemed the brewery reps were there and serving it at the flour city brewer fest in rochester, so be it. A lesson in diacatyl awareness...should be served to anyone studying becoming a beer judge.

12oz bottle. Hazy, dark brown with ruby tint, small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, breadiness and some grains. Flavor is caramel, bready, some hop balance as well. Meidum body with creaminess. Solid.

[1873-20081205] Cask. Beery aroma has lots of yeast grains and multigrain characteristics. Slightly hazy, dark red brown body with quick off-white bubbles. Heavy yeast multigrain malt flavour. Boozy medium-full body. Booziness is fine but the rest is heavy.

Appearance: Pours a garnet-hued body with a bubbly, off-white head. Smell: A simple, straight-forward aroma of dark caramel and toasted grains. Taste: Dark caramel maltiness with a slight sweetness. Lightly astringent toasted graininess. Earthy hop character and medium bitterness. Finishes dry. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Eh, it’s just an average red at best.

12oz bottle. Deep reddish-mahogany. Aroma of mercurocome, very medicinal. Old hospital. Sweet sugary malt. kinda syrupy. lots of caramel, some toffee. Very sweet. I prefer a red more dry.

Finally Buffalo has a beer it can call its own again...one of my favorite beers, drinks easy, great aftertaste, a malty alternative to the hoppy beer varities. Red is best on tap in Buffalo at the Lafayette Tap Room or Century Grill.

You know, it is what it was supposed to be, but I guess I just don’t like Irish reds. It reminds of of Sam Adams Irish red, didn’t really care for that one either. very dark red, off white color head. Malty, just can’t put my finger on what i don’t like about it, but it wasn’t my favorite.
