Aroma is hoppy, as is typical of pale ale. Flavor is slightly hoppy and citrus, and very balanced compared to the aroma. Pretty good beer, but sort of bland. seanbhudson (54), , California, USA

Just much weaker compared to the IPA which is how it should be. maxpizzo (44), Italy

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 1, 2009 Pored from the bottle into a pint glass. Pour produced a hazy, amber body topped by a yellow-white head of foam. Aroma is laden with hops and citrus notes. Flavor is lightly bitter with moderate carbonation and light mouthfeel. The palate is crisp, with light to moderate hop notes with a touch of citrus. The hops aftertaste, typical with this style, is not overwhelming, nor long lasting. Overall, this is certainly a drinkable brew, and may be a gateway ale for those friends you may have who have not been introduced to the "hop side." thewolf (5838), Kolding, Denmark

Pours deep red amber with a big, frothy, off-white, staying head. Sweet aroma with fruits, hops and light caramel. Medium carbonation, fine mouthfeel. Light dryness. Flavour is fine, light dry hops. Some fruitiness. Fine beer, elegant and just well-brewed for its ABV. Fine, long hoppy aftertaste. NaturalIce (115), originally from Michigan, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 26, 2009 12 oz bottle; I’ll have to say I’m a fan of the Flying Dog bottle artwork and the beer is pretty good too, but, I still think it’s barely a step above the norm as a brewery. With that said, this classic pale is.. good; but not great. The hoppy aroma has a distinction that almost screams pacific northwest. It’s really refreshing. As with most pale ales, there’s some bitterness and this one has a little bit more sour to it. The beer finishes bitter and sticky. Although I didn’t get the citrus aroma mentioned by others, had a nice nose. Dry finish, but not overly bitter. Would drink again.
