Commercial Description:
Double Dog Double Pale Ale Back by popular demand, our original "Wild Dog Release" is back, and this time it’s for good. Double Dog Double Pale Ale is a generously hopped ale with a deep red color and pours with a nice frothy head. The abundance of hops will conjure some provocative aromas with hints of raisins and citrus.

Bottle @ Bishops Arms, Karlstad.
Pours an amber color with a nice white head. Aroma is inviting with lots of grapefruit, pine-needles, resin and some malty toffee and caramel notes. Inviting and typical, very american. Flavour is quite sweet with lots of malty caramel and toffee, followed by some hoppy grapefruit, pine-needles and resin with a big bitterness in the finish. Fullbodied mouthfeel, a bit sticky, with perfect carbonation (quite low but not non-existing). Overall a decent beer but maybe a bit one-dimensional, or maybe I’m tired of these typical hoppy american beers. With that said, this is still well-made and a good introduction to the style (I would call it a Double IPA...). Extremely well hidden alcohol, can’t believe it’s 11,5% ABV!

Full on hoppy nose with a hint of toffee. Pours a gently muddy brown with a frothy head and sticky lace. Flavour is rich and strong, slightly vineous, has notes of burnt caramel and toasted pine nuts and develops into a long, dry, bitter finish with great hopping. A very tasty strong ale somewhat akin to a Sierra Nevada Bigfoot.

7oz bottle from Canis Major box on April 28, 2009. Looks like an IPA. Smells like a sweet & spicy IPA. Not much stable head or lacing... I suspect alcohol is at play here. Mmmmhmmm... tastes like an IPA, but a little like I’m sucking on a pine branch off a forest floor. Sap and all. Sweet, warm, bitter under the tongue, but not too much. Fun palate and a great, lasting finish. Oh, and not to mention over 11%ABV. Just what I needed after a long day’s work. Prosit, Flying Dog!

perhaps I got the wong bottle on this I thought it was very weak and not well balanced. I’m a fan of Flying dogs other brands and perhaps will revisted this one again.

Slightly hazed, deep amber appearance with a medium size, cream colored head and very good lacing. Piney hops bounce off sweet caramel malts in the aroma. All the citrusy, piney, resinous hops are right up front with the first sip followed by some sweetness and a firm malt backbone right in the middle. Aftertaste is bitter with a noticable alcohol kick. Long, lingering finish trails the full bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel.

Bottle. Cloudy with big foamy way off white head. Aroma of grasslands and forests, a deep vitaminy maltiness and a hint of sesame. Spreads across the tongue like a blanket. Conjures up thoughts of DFH 90-Minute and is, if anything, better balanced - so maybe balance isn’t quite what I’m after with the superhoppy beers, because I still prefer the 90-Minute, especially since it clocks in 2+ percent lower in alcohol. Still, this is a very good, if powerful, beer.

Another wild and creative Ralph Steadman label design. Pours deep orange-red with small white head. Potent grassy hoppy aroma. Taste is absolutely delicious, full mouthfeel and very complex. Malts and extreme hops mix beautifully into a spicy peppery concoction with strong hoppy accents of grapefruit and lemon. The 11.5% of alcohol are very well hidden. The finish is long, bitter and oh-so-tasty. A brilliant, strong and complex beer!

Pours hazy golden amber with a small off white head. Aroma is citrusy hops and pine. Flavor is big grapefruit hops with a slightly sweet malt taste showing along as a big bitter finish. Very good.
