Strong aroma. It is very bitter, and I agree with the labeling as American Strong Ale.
It is very bitter, but does not have the flowery taste that a pale ale normally does.
I love strong and bitter beers, and this perfect. The taste just goes on and on. One of the best beers I have had in a while.
My first rating:-)

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 22, 2009 The range of these Dawgs has finally hit the Aussie shoreline. So while we are girt by sea at least some of these new brews from Obamaland are getting in. I wish those who claim American beers to be meek and pissweak could wrap their brains around this one. It looks great in the Duvel glass that is made for this. Plenty of room to swirl the beer and release its hoppy aroma. Caramel notes are also present in abundance which comes out in the taste and mouthfeel. This is not unbalanced at all even though the ABV is formidable. Apart from the wacko label this is a fine beer indeed. crackedmachine (89), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 22, 2009 Pours a hazy copper with a thin, quickly dissipating head. Heavy, slighly sweet hop aroma. Similar flavor - very hoppy, a bit spicy, with some raisin sweetness. Warms the mouth - the alcohol is clearly there. This is a wonderful beer. MoritzF (5067), Bochum, Germany
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 19, 2009 (35.5cl bottle) Cloudy, deep orange to amber colour with a short off-white foamy head. Lemon-fruity, raisiny and piney hops aroma with a moderately sweet malty touch and notes of licorice, bread and alcohol. Sweet and moderately bitter flavour, full bodied with an almost crispy carbonation. Cara-malty taste with licorice spice, a good dash of aromatic fruity hops and a warming touch of alcohol. Bitter-sweet, well rounded malty and hoppy finish with licorice and fruity and piney hoppy notes in the lasting aftertaste. Impressive (18.II.09). trayns (242), Beverly Hills, Michigan, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 19, 2009 Bottle. Pours deep amber golden, somewhat brown. Nice white head to go along. Big sweet smell of hops and lightly roasted malt sweetness. Taste is full bodied, lots of sweetness up front, but with a big backdrop and finish of hops. altonbrownd (1962), Amsterdam, Netherlands

The first sip was a little bit overwhelming, too bitter, kind of like ear wax. But with every sip it gets better and better!! The best of the flying dog as far as i tasted. Very complex aroma with very long finish, once you get through the bitterness which remains abundant but not disturbing.
Excellent beer.
