(vintage 07) Pours a very seductive amber/orange color with a BEAUTIFUL white head that has amazing retention and perfect lacing! Im not sure I have seen lacing this nice before. Aroma is surprisingly malty but still very heavy on the hops. Mostly citrus hops plow through the nice pillow of a head that is still in my glass. Flavor is mostly citrus fruit, grapefruit.... There is a very nice warming at the end from the 10+ %abv. Very smooth on the other hand. I have said it before, this beer could get you into trouble. The heavy resiny palate compliments the beer very nicely too. This beer is under the Gonzo shadow and I almost think it should be the other way around. Monkeypower (87), Odense C, Denmark

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 29, 2008 08 vintage, little 7 ounce bottle. Pours a clear copper with a reasonable offwhite head, diminishing evenly. The nose is rather pungent with hops (a bit of a surprise). Low profile malt and alcohol, though it definitely rounds out the nose. Crisp, dry. Substantial, a little sticky, but not thick or creamy. Right on for IIPA. Maybe a bit of chalk, but I think it’s more something tannic or astringent making my tongue rough. Big ass fruity hops, sharp pungent resin, orange and a little toasty astringency maybe, but in a good way (and I never say that). This is very tannic, like tea bags or oak even. Sweetness is significant, but fleeting, drying out with a bit of alcohol very quickly. Lingering hop bite. Like a drier Dreadnaught. A very good beer! JaBier (1294), Capital City, Ohio, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 28, 2008 Updated: Feb 14, 200912oz bottle, ’07 vintage. Pours an orange/amber with a 2 inch off-white head. Aroma is sweet and malty with some hop. Flavor is alcohol and sweetness, with a decent hop finish. Tastes more like an American barleywine and I attribute that to the year. Probably lots more hop when it was fresh.
Update: Fresh bottle sampled at the Flying Dog tasting at Blacklick Wine and Spirits on 2.12.09. Aroma and flavor are very much improved. Great balance of hop, malt and alcohol with hops as the dominating characteristic.
