Commercial Description:
Double Dog Double Pale Ale Back by popular demand, our original "Wild Dog Release" is back, and this time it’s for good. Double Dog Double Pale Ale is a generously hopped ale with a deep red color and pours with a nice frothy head. The abundance of hops will conjure some provocative aromas with hints of raisins and citrus.

Aroma is mostly hops with an earthy orange hint. pour is light amber with a massive creamy off-white head. Taste is hoppy and citrusy and very bitter... the after taste is very nice - lots of great flavors- alcohol burn is a bit much but then I noticed the ABV. The website says 10.5% but my bottle says 11.5%. Certainly not your typical Double Pale Ale - more like Double IPA meets Barley Wine?? All around a nice brew. Just be sure you are in the mood for a strong one!

Bottle@Home, label says 11.5% ABV. Strong fruity and floral aroma with some grassy notes. Clear, dull amber, yellowish head, good lace. Sweet, very bitter, very herbal and grassy, more sweetness in the finish but this is hidden by the bitterness. Very sticky, yet dry hop mouthfeel in the end. More like a Barley Wine than a Double IPA.

Orange/rust colored with a very small off-white head that really didn’t last. The smell was hoppy (grapefruit/oranges), malty caramel and a slight alcohol burn. Taste is hoppy, but finishes a little more bitter than I was hoping for.

12 oz bottle poured into glass; Pours out opaque rusty color with small white head. Can’t put my finger on the aroma but it is VERY hoppy. Flavor of hops and a long bitter palate - thank you 85 IBU. Good to Great beer.

Bottle: Poured a orangish brown with an off white head. Aroma is full filled with hops, fruits, spice, and sweet malts/possible caramel or toffee. Taste is a bitter harsh hops at first leaves to a warming malts and fruit citrus. Loads of alcohol present in this.

For my 30th birthday and my 500th rating, I was going to pick something perhaps ’better’ out of my fridge, something I would rather drink a fraction of and share with other beer fans, but then I thought, ’screw that. drink what you want’. Too preachy? Probably, I’ve had a couple tonight. Vintage 71? 7I? Orange oil aroma, like the rind has been squeezed and the pure essence was removed. There’s even an orange hue to the red and gold color and the bright white head stayed thick and rose above the rim of the glass with ample surface tension. I’m not sure what to think about this beer, there’s a twinge throughout. I get the intense syrupy malt and abundant hops but there’s a chlorine edge and astringent side that distract from all of the magic that this beer could be. volatile really. That’s what I like about bigger beers like this, the risk and reward. And let the record show that it’s still before midnight here, no matter what the datestamp on this site shows.
