Commercial Description:
Double Dog Double Pale Ale Back by popular demand, our original "Wild Dog Release" is back, and this time it’s for good. Double Dog Double Pale Ale is a generously hopped ale with a deep red color and pours with a nice frothy head. The abundance of hops will conjure some provocative aromas with hints of raisins and citrus.

Amber color with a slight opalescence, this is a surprisingly huge hop bomb with a bit of a whiskey nose. Slightly thick on the palate, but the body and the citrus bitter kick go on and on. The malt presence is mostly a matter of texture but there are decided caramel notes that linger, There’s a bit of a floral presence, but it doesn’t really matter in this unctuous stew of hoppiness.

A great upfront hop assult, but then the alc. taste kicks in, big time. Its still sweet and not dry at all at 10.5% (makes me wonder what would have happened if they got some superyeast in this thing, 13-14%). The hops are great, but it is still way overly malt tasting(haha behind 85 IBUs, good times). Palate suffers from: lack of carb, un-necessary viscosity, both of which could be fixed if I tossed some champagne yeast in this and left it on the counter for a week. Too much residual sugar, the recipe needs to be 13% alc. or scale it back a bit.

Amber color. Medium body. Grapefruit up front with lingering bitterness---which I like. Only the "amber-red" color and name seperate this from a DIPA, IMO. ABV over powers all other flavors.

A nice beer. Bitter is not incorporated as well as some others I like in the same style. A near excellent beer, that I’ll get again when I want a bitter fix.

Aroma is huge hop nose. Deep hazy amber with a small cream-color head. Plentiful lacings. Hop bomb, grapefruit rind, some sweet malts. Good double Pale Ale. Not something I would drink often. Almost like drinking a quality boilermaker due to the high abv.

7/3/08: Bottle.
Hoppy caramel nose. Body is an orange-brown color. Hoppy flavor - citrus and florals throughout. Other flavors include caramel malts a touch of spice and some bitterness.

Pours a dark golden color. Medium thick blond head that lasts. Fragrant, floral hop aroma. Thick malts and bitter resiny hops. Warming alcohol and bitter hop and dry finish. RERATING: I’m upping the score because it got much better as it warmed up.

Particularly nice DPA. The aroma is very fragrant heavy fruity/floral scent and just enough malt, with licorice and resiny pine. Flavor is best described as the lovechild of a strong IPA and a fruity belgian trippel. Wonderful taste of figs, raisins, pine, citrus, licorice, white grapes and hot malt the palate both chalky and oily at the same time. The real winner here is the warm, boozy - in a good way - finish, with the ten-five staying hidden until the bitter end. Warms like a dry white wine. Better than I expected... I’ll buy again for sure.
