| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jun 20, 2008 Bottle pours hazy copper with minimal head. Aroma is floral hops. First taste is slightly sweet, then hops take over. Strong hops body and hops finish. Bitterness lingers. sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 18, 2008 had this yesterday from a bottle. was surprised it’s so well rated with so many ratings. also surprised at the abv. pretty brown, translucent with a mustard small head. smell’s pretty balanced, particularly after the horndog. a fair amount of floral hops to round out amber ale-ish malts. tastes similar with caramel and a bitter backend. alcohol didn’t really show on it, but it was pretty heavy bodied for a "pale ale," unsurprisingly. elihapa (1067), Honolulu, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 18, 2008 2/29/08 notes: poured from bottle. Pours hazy light orange cream. Smell is of intense malts, hops, orange, and booze. Taste is of similar intensity: drinks like a stronger version of Rogue’s American Amber with large amounts of malt and hops, sweetness, and a little citrus. In one word: BOLD. Palate was a bit too chewy for this style, but I suppose it comes with the higher alcohol? I have to say this was a very enjoyable offering, and my first from Flying Dog. Alcohol intensity is very well hidden: only if you let it warm and linger in your mouth does it make itself overly present. deft (79), Sweden
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 15, 2008 355 ml bottle at Haket 23/4. Clear red copper with low thick off-white head. Really really hoppy aroma, fruity. Very bitter taste, hops and some sherry tones. It’s strong but the alcohol taste is well hidden. Thick mouthfeel and very long aftertaste. Very interesting! phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 13, 2008 I had this as the Double dog, pours a clean amber colour with a very sweet barley wine like aroma. The initial taste is caramel followed up by a smack in the face of hops. Like a truckload of hops dumped in your mouth. Wicked tastey, sweet all the way through finishes bitter. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 12, 2008 Smells beautiful of hops and malt. The first drink is a definite hit of hops but the next sip is awesome. Hops with malt undertone and a semi-dry finish. The alcohol shows through but it helps the hops come out also. I like hops... mmm this is good.
