| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | May 21, 2008 Caramel, lightly reddish, some haze, some white head.
Big floral hoppy aroma, some higher alcohols.
Sharp fusel bite, strong bitterness.
Lively, playful, not heavy.
Not too bad a brew, but the higher alcohols have a sharp edge to them that fights with the bitterness. Hank1980 (765), Athens, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 21, 2008 Pours a light brown with a small white head, light lacing. Aroma of hops, fruit, spice, and caramel. Taste is pretty hoppy, though also a little sweet. Not a hop bomb by any means. A decent brew that finishes lightly bitter, average carbonation, and medium body. lucke13 (90), Des Moines, Iowa, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 19, 2008 Pours a medium brown with hints of red. Minimal white head. Smells strongly of hops with flowery aromatics. The taste is prodomenently bitter hops, but a sweetness sneaks it’s way in there too. The aftertaste is all bitter hops. Mouthfeel is very good medium-heavy body and mild carbonation. A very good beer, but a little less bitterness would make it excellent. truegen (165), Puyallup, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 18, 2008 12oz. bottle from Tacoma Boys Market. Minimal head on the pour, some lacing, and a tawny leather color. Aroma is massively sweet with stone-fruit overtones. Flavor is also sweet, but nowhere near where the nose was indicating. A smooth, honey-like mouthfeel helps to prevent the sweetness from becoming cloying, as do the hops. Good hop profile really pushes this brew above and beyond. Let this sit about 15 minutes out of the fridge, and it’ll be right where you want it. This is really what you’d call a barleywine. Deschutes doubled down on their Mirror Pond (Mirror Mirror) and this really compares very closely. carlsbaad (4), Nashville, Tennessee, USA does not count | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 18, 2008 Wow! Comparing beer to DDDPA is like comparing blended scotch to a 25 year old single malt or McDonald’s coffee to Italian espresso. The intensity jumps out of your mouth. It borders on overkill. Beautifully brewed beer with great balance between malt and hops that adequately hides the 10.5% ABV. Sweet malty flavor that quickly changes to a hoppy aftertaste. mto (51), helsinki, Finland

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 15, 2008 (Bottled) Very hazy darkish amber with a small, lacy head. Strongly aromatic-hoppy, pine-resiny nose with some grainy alcohol presence. Slightly stuffy, but strongly grainy and bitter flavor with a bitter, slightly alcohol-burning finish. Quite full-bodied, lightly burning palate with medium carbonation. Nice, but somewhat alcoholic.
