Commercial Description:
Double Dog Double Pale Ale Back by popular demand, our original "Wild Dog Release" is back, and this time it’s for good. Double Dog Double Pale Ale is a generously hopped ale with a deep red color and pours with a nice frothy head. The abundance of hops will conjure some provocative aromas with hints of raisins and citrus.

Bottle from Jason’s in Ellicott City, MD. Man, this is 11.5%? So that’s why I was so drunk! I figured it was a 7-8%er. Pours a hazy deep reddish-amber with a thick, creamy beige head. Aroma is caramel malt and citrusy/piney hops. Flavor is very intense with sweet caramel malt, balanced by lots of citrusy C-hops, with a little alcohol noticeable but well-hidden. Body is full and the palate is sticky and syrupy, which hurts the drinkability a little. Buy hey, it is 11.5% ABV, so you sort of expect it. Great stuff overall.

Orange amber with a white head. The odor is of malt and pine hops. The flavor itself is very sharply hoppy with some caramel malt flavors. It started out decent, but the finish killed it for me. I found the alcohol punch at the end way too harsh. The longer this beer lingered on my tongue, the worse it got. I could barely finish my glass. I usually love strong and hoppy beers, but anything good about this did not stand up to the alcohol percentage.

Pours a deep hazy amber orange with thick off-white head, decent lacing. Aroma of mostly citrus hops, alcohol, decent malt backbone, and some spices. Flavor matches pretty well, but has a sweetness that I don’t particularly care for. Mouthfeel is medium and very dry. Leaves a pleasant hop aftertaste though.

This beer was released several months ago but it is still not widely distributed in Colorado. I picked up a 4-pack and paid about $9. The beer is a dark orange-brown color with a good two-finger head. The smell is hoppy and pleasing. The taste has a very nice hop punch to it with a good malty flavor in the background. My big complaint is the mouthfeel. This stuff had some serious astringency to it leaving my mouth prickly and dry. This obviously affects the drinkability. Good flavor but overall I’ll be passing this one up. If they could keep the flavor and tone down the alcohol astringency they would have a winner. This is still one of the better Flying Dog beers I have had. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 08-14-2007 14:16:55

Bottle. Bronze with no carbonation. Pored with a small head .Sweet and powerful hoppiness with a full body. Wonderful presence of hops makes you want to spin this one out. Excellent-what more can I say.

Bottle. Nice sweet aroma. Flavour doesn’t stack up as well though in my opinion. More sweetness, alcohol, caramel, more sweetness in a dry bitter finish. Certainly not bad but didn’t enjoy this too much.

7 oz. bottle. Vintage: 08 MM. Pours a hazy, deep copper color with a smallish tan head. Excellent balance in the aroma with lots of caramel and plums to offset the spicy citrus qualities. Goes down full-bodied and syrupy. Excellent balance taste-wise too. Plenty of roasty caramel maltiness upfront. Big grapefruity flavors follow. Spicy. Warming alcohol is present throughout. A lingering, super-dry finish.
