Commercial Description:
“Garde Dog” Biere de Garde is unfiltered with a hazy, deep golden to light copper appearance. Brewed with domestically grown French Hops and German Pilsner Malts, it gives craft beer drinkers a very enjoyable, light-bodied, subtlety sweet beer with toasty malt undertones. Garde Dog is the perfect compleiment to lighter fare such as seafood, salads, cheese and Middle Eastern and Indian foods

From bottle. August Dayton Beer Tasting event - Favorite Summer Brews. Barely hazy yellow with decent white head. Very little aroma with sweet spiciness. Looking for a session beer? Keep looking.

Poured a dar yellow but clear. Showed nice carbonation. the head disappeared a little too fast, but the lace remained. The aroma was rather too mild. The taste was crisp, with a hint of lemon and nice spiciness. Overall, it would be a good session beer.

12 oz. pours golden and clear with little head. aroma is some banana, malt and yeast. mouthful is crisp with a little spicy yeast action, a mild departure from a pilsner, but not bad on its own.

After rating an excellent Ommegang, this Flying Dog is a disappointment. It smells like a German pilsner but with wild yeast. Likewise it pours like a lager but without much hop lace or head retention. The pale malt is nice enough, and the French hops add some pleasant floral notes. Hop astringency and malt sweetness compete in the palate. Sorry Flying Dog, but this does not distinguish itself.

Pale yellow, minimal bubbly head. Looks a lot like a macro. Flavor is relatively mild, with notes of rye bread, roasted malt, caramel, and honey. Has some floral notes as well. Pretty easy to drink, nothing offensive here.

Pours a clear lemon yellow with thin white head that dissipates to a very thin layer. Aroma is wheaty with notes of citrus (lemon). Flavor is a light sweetness, hints of honey or a tinged of sweetened lemon. Just a touch a bitterness at the sip. Carbonation is medium with a light body. A simple beer but one that would be a good clean summer beer as it is not heavy and the flavors are have a lightening crisp quality.

Date: 08/22/08, 12 oz. bottle courtesy of and shared with DoBoy - thanks, Ed.

Aroma - Light grain, gentle citrus flavors,

Appearance - Very faintly hazy, almost clear gold, medium white head

Flavor - Honey sweetness up front, yielding to a soft, spicy bitterness, although the finish remains barely sweet

Palate - Light body and medium carbonation, smooth, neutral palate

Overall - An unpretentious, kind of one dimensional beer, that has refreshing qualities nonetheless. May serve well as a light summer refresher and session brew for those looking for something a little on the sweet side.

Bottle. Slightly cloudy, light golden pour with a medium-thick white head. Malty aroma with a bourbony undertone. Simple, malty taste with a bit of a dry, hoppy finish. Nothing very exciting here, but an ok backyard pre-meal BBQ beer.
