Commercial Description:
“Garde Dog” Biere de Garde is unfiltered with a hazy, deep golden to light copper appearance. Brewed with domestically grown French Hops and German Pilsner Malts, it gives craft beer drinkers a very enjoyable, light-bodied, subtlety sweet beer with toasty malt undertones. Garde Dog is the perfect compleiment to lighter fare such as seafood, salads, cheese and Middle Eastern and Indian foods

12 oz. single from Total Wine in Huntersville, NC. Beer pours a dark gold with a light head. Unfiltered, a bit of a haze to it. Aroma is non existent. Taste is average - and I don’t know how to say the beer style, but I assume it is French for ’beer that sucks’.

Pours a clear gold with a fizzy white head, much like a pale lager. The nose is extremely muted with minor notes of manderine, cardboard and thats really it. The flavour is equally boring and muted, with some citrus and bready, doughy malts. Its not refreshing or pleasant, flavourful or crisp. This is another example of weak, uninspired golden crap.

Pours a clear orange color with no head at all. The nose is almost nonexistant and you can not really detect any thing to potent. There is some hints of Apricot but they are hard to smell. The initial flavor is very bland with somemild apricot and a fizzy finish. You can kind of taste some hops but the apricot overpowers it. The finish is kind of watery and there is not much complexity to it. Overall it is alright but could use a better hop bitterness.

Bottle. Pours clear gold with a small, white head, diminishing with fizzy lacing. Aroma is average malt (cereal, meal), light hops (flowers), average yeast (dough, sweat) with notes of apple and pear. Light bodied, creamy texture, light carbonation, and a chalky texture. Average duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.

This is a fairly hit and miss brewery for me, but this is more of a miss than I think I’ve had from them. Pours light copper with a soapy off-white head. The aroma has spice, citrus, toasty malt, some musty basement, caramel and some ’off-ness’. Medium body that is very crisp and has lots of carbonation. The flavor starts with lots of spice, musty caramel, very ’dirty’ taste and pepper phenols. The finish leaves a stale taste in the mouth. Not very enjoyable.

Pours a clear gold color with a medium, foamy, light tan head. Smells of soured fruits, with a little bit of funk, but not whole lot, with a touch of sweet malt in there as well. Nothing exciting so far. The flavor has a touch of funk to it as well, but more artificial tasting than anything. Had a lot of sweet caramel malts in the flavor, which I dont think they were going for. Just not done too well. Maybe needed to research this style more, before they gave it a shot.

Is it me or does this beer smell like apples? This beer has a lager type appearance. I don’t know what type of beer this is because I have to rate on Microsoft Word because my internet does not seem to be working, but this beer is a little dull. A subtle malt smell, but nothing too special. The hops don’t stand out at all and the beer just doesn’t have a great smell to it. This beer is very lager like, and has a slight taste of honey. This beer just reeks of yeast and that is the only thing that this beer has going for it. The beer is just a honey tasting lager. I am not very impressed, I thought this beer had more to offer. Reminds me of honey brown. There are a few toffee notes, but nothing to where I am impressed.
