The chocolate taste is very strong, with licorice, toffee and coffee flavors. The label by Steadham is a wonderful homage to this wonderful writer. R.I.P. BeerBunker (616), Burbank, Illinois, USA

Huge alcohol bite in each sip. Lingering chocolate taste. Light, yet sticky mouthfeel. tarheels86 (799), Washington DC, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 12, 2009 330 mL. Pours almost pitch black with a small tan head that lasts and lasts settling to a nice film and leaving good lacework. Aromas of vanilla extract, raisins, malted milk balls, chocolate malt, caramel. Taste is perfectly smooth with lots of vanilla, resiny hops like an IPA, cocoa, dark chocolate. Brilliant! Great warming finish from the 9.2%- dry almost IPA aftertaste. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 11, 2009 Pours black with slight brown highlights at rim and a substantial tan coloured head. Nose is multidimensional! Dry cocoa powder, sweet dark fruit and resiny hops. Palate shows malt sweetness early before chocolate and coffee roast come into play. Finishes with substantial resiny hop bitterness. Carbonation is relatively soft, and palate weight is spot on for a porter. I’d love to try this fresh! Regardless, this is an awesome brew! joshwilfong (794), Cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 11, 2009 black with tan head. moderate carbonation with roasty nose. flavor mostly of roasted malt with a ton of hop bitterness that actually overpowers the roasted malt. nice alcoholic depth, very good. but i believe the roasted malt makes this a stout soccer290 (137), Highland Park, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 9, 2009 12 oz bottle. Had this before, but having it again to rate it. Pours about a finger-high tan head, that dissipates after a minute or so. Smells of malt and roasted coffee (my favorite). Has a motor oil black color, but a lesser consistency than motor oil. Tastes mostly like roasted coffee, but has a smooth chocolate finish. Very good porter, probably one of the best I’ve had (though I have had very few imperial porters). | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jan 7, 2009 Black pour into creamy tan head. Heavy lacing melts into a ring of tan colored bubbles that hang on the edge of the glass. Aroma of roasted coffee and malty hops. Initial flavor of buttery toffee, slight hoppy bite with a lingering sweet dark chocolate finish. lassewan (44), Borlänge, Sweden
