Sep 5, 2008 Pours a thick deep dark brown. The nose is a strong coffee with subtle chocolate notes. Comes across the palate very similar; but it has a very faint chocolate undertones.

Aug 30, 2008 Bottle BBE 20.08.09. Pours black with medium, dark brown head. Medicinal phenolic aroma. Some tropical fruits, like pineappe and mango as well as strawberries. Light lemon and grapefruit, with yeasty toasted, roasted malt. Egg nogg with lemon peel. Medium to light body. Slightly phenolic. Soft bitterness and some sweetness. Just a hint of sourness and soft roastiness.

Aug 30, 2008 From an 07 bottle, opened without fanfare, but the head grew anyway. Poured black with a mocha one finger head. Aroma is very malty with smoky/burnt and woodlike smell. Taste is intense, then goes right into bitter chocolate smoked flavor. Aftertaste is a little bitter/dry. Overall, a good representation of a baltic porter.

Aug 30, 2008 Cool bottle. Completely black body, tiny beige head, small bubbled. Licorice, tar, plums, smoke and candid sugar ion the aroma. Taste really strong for it’s volume, with a dry bitter tone. The taste is not as complex as implied by the aroma.

Aug 29, 2008 From the bottle. Pitch black with a tall, appetizing tan head. Thick, rich aroma of chocolate/cocoa, some dark fruits, a bit of coffee, and roasted malts. Rich, strong flavor, lots of roasted malt, coffee, some chocolate and fruit, a bit of sour. Very nice, although the alcohol is a bit too apparent. Finish of alcohol, burnt malts, and a touch of sour. A rich, flavorful porter that got better as it warmed.

Aug 25, 2008 Sampled at Brew at the Zoo at the National Zoo in Washington DC. Pours a slightly oily, slightly watery opaque black with a creamy, lacing white head. Nice malty aroma, toast, licorice, brown sugar, dark, roasted grains. Flavor is similar, more toast and licorice with some molasses, slight coffee but plenty of distinguishable grain. Slightly thick and oily on the tongue with just a touch of heat. Very nicely balanced.
