Commercial Description:
Like Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo Imperial Porter is deep and complex. This turbo charged version of the Road Dog Porter is mysteriously dark with a rich malty body, intense roasted flavors, and a surprisingly unique hop kick. With Gonzo weighing in at 7.8% ABV, it will bite you in the ass if you don’t show it the proper respect. IBU’s: 85

Bottle pours black with thin brown head. Aroma is coffee, resin and alcohol. First taste is sweet, coffee and spicy. Has alcohol and hops body with sweet coffee finish. ABV is very noticiable.

Bottle. Nice creamy brown head with excellent duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are rich with licorice, roast malt, coffee and chocolate. Some fruity notes as well.

Pours an opaue black colour with a sturdy tan head that fades to a sudsy film, leaving some lacing. The nose is hoppier than anticipated, with bright citric notes, nougat, BOOZE, pine and tones of black coffee. The flavour is full of heavily roasted malts with a peppery bite and loads of NW hop flavour. There are notes of anise, dark chocolate and pine resin. The mouthfeel is creamy and amply carbonated. The booze is everpresent, but not in an offensive way.

agreed that it is a thin head with a powerful body. great taste better as it finishes as most good/grat beers the srtong ABV is well masked. flying dog must have a wonderful combination of brew-masters and quality control

Pours a used motor oil black with a thin head. Taste of coffee, chocolate, and malt with a hop kick. Not bad, but there are better porters for the money.

pours dark brown with brown foam - spicy aroma of black licorice - very nice strong black licorice/alcohol taste finishes with remnant of alcohol taste and hops. Too sweet and the alcohol is too much in the front of the flavor for me. Tastes kind like a hopped up NYQUIL

Not very cool bottle, but I tried it anyway. Dark and beautifu beer! Brown golden head. Aroma of yeast and coffee, I like! Somewhat fizzy in mouth even though it doesnt seem to have much carbon.Sweet and full taste. I like porter - I like this one. (Ånn, 210308)

Poured a bottle into a tulip glass. I’m not sure how old this beer is, but probably several months at least. I bought this on a clearance sale. I think the aging has been good for it, however. Very impressive! Huge, multi-inch cafe-au-lait colored head that lasted seemingly forever, followed by decent lacing on the glass. Aromas of coffee, alcohol, hops, slightly medicinal, but overall pretty good. Many different flavors abound in this beer. Coffee, toffee, chocolate, caramel. Sweet with some hoppiness to balance. Tastes very good. Alcohol well hidden. Never would have guessed it’s a 9.2%er. Mouthfeel is kind of sticky with a good bit of drying after each sip. You can feel the carbonation as well. Bit of a bitter chocolate aftertaste. Nice beer, but quite rich. High ABV and richness limit the drinkability, but overall it’s a very good beer.
