Black with a thick tan head.
Aroma of grains, roasted malt, caramel and nuts. Similar ingredients in the taste, also some chocolate, quite sweet. Body was medium, a good imperial porter. Good balance and a rather long, bitter aftertaste. strowlands8 (95), Ontario, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 28, 2009 Poured nearly black with a medium tan head that leaves lots of lacing. The aroma is huge on roasted malt and the flavour is similar backed up with dark chocolate sweetness/bitterness. A really tasty, full bodied beer (not to mention the great label ) GMUcrew7 (377), Mason, Ohio, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 25, 2009 4/12 A 0.355 l bottle bought with Doggythedog in beer8 shop, Genoa. Our first Imperial porter. It poured dark brown to black body with medium sized brown head. Nice aroma, some orange hops, caramel, chocolate and roasted sugar. Flavor is caramel as well, coffee is here unlike in aroma, but still not nearly as much as in any stout, no that chicory note as well. Pretty complex, ranging from chocolate to more bitter malty flavors, streching to orange hoppy notes and some herbal spices. Full in body with very nice long dark malty finish. Alcohol is not really felt, except some warming. I like the beer and already the style! Best in a while! Rustyham (598), miami, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 21, 2009 hardly any aroma, but color is a deep, deep black usually reserved for an imperial stout. Flavor is very fluffy- like roasted marshmallows. Vanilla and roasted malts. Exceptionally smooth. TheGrandMaster (1877), Auckland, New Zealand

This was a lively pour, but what I was left with was a beautiful jet black beer with a large foamy and frothy brown head. I could have just looked at it all night. Just as well I didn’t then. I would have missed out on smelling that beautifully rich nose - toffee and smoky ash - and the delicious taste - lots of chocolate, licorice and a little bit salty. Missing out on those hops this side of the world though, which is a shame, though the long dry finish hints at what I’m missing. jeffc666 (1897), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 18, 2009 Opaque black body. Head is very fizzy and not all that appealing looking. Aroma is sweet, licorice, toffee, roasted malt. The flavor is roasted malt, balanced sweetness (not as sweet as I expected from the aroma) and bitterness. Full mouthfeel, quote pleasant on this the eve of a historic snowstorm!
