Ansset13 (121), Wilmington, North Carolina, USA Mar 4, 2008 This beer is a staple in my fridge. I can’t believe I haven’t rated this yet. The pour is an extremely deep brown, bordering on black, with a small coppery head. The nose is malty with hints of dark chocolate, espresso, and caramel. The flavor is rich with roasted malts, creamy touches dark of chocolate and coffee are present. A wonderful stout worthy of of its tribute to Hunter S. Thompson.

Black with nice head. Aroma of coffee and liqourice. Flavor is coffee, roasted malt and chocolate. Alcohol tone. KnN (281), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA Sep 6, 2008 This was like the love child of an IPA and a stout. Lots of nice chocolate and coffee tones on this beer, but then this unexpected but not unpleasant hop kick. Was surprised at the hops but ultimately I’m not sure if they helped or hindered. Might have to revisit. JustinFromAL (62), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Sep 6, 2008 Draft. Dark brown pour with a frothy off-white head. Coffee on the nose, malty and a bit fruity in taste. Delicious beer. stankenk (29), Maplewood, Minnesota, USA Sep 5, 2008 Pours a thick deep dark brown. The nose is a strong coffee with subtle chocolate notes. Comes across the palate very similar; but it has a very faint chocolate undertones. Gusgus (118), Tanumshede, Sweden Aug 30, 2008 Bottle BBE 20.08.09. Pours black with medium, dark brown head. Medicinal phenolic aroma. Some tropical fruits, like pineappe and mango as well as strawberries. Light lemon and grapefruit, with yeasty toasted, roasted malt. Egg nogg with lemon peel. Medium to light body. Slightly phenolic. Soft bitterness and some sweetness. Just a hint of sourness and soft roastiness.
