gservo (21), New Jersey, USA Jun 7, 2009 Great Flavor, If HornDog is Too Cold, Chocolate seems like its beaten and thrown in a trunk crying WVHouseofBeer (337), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA Jun 7, 2009 Not too much going on with this beer, just a below average barley wine. Poured dark with a slight copper tint and minimal head. Nothing special. joeneugs (282), Livermore, California, USA Jun 2, 2009 It has a dark red pour with a small dissapearing off white head. The aroma is of berries, bread, caramel, and alcohol. The taste is sweet with caramel, berries, and has a medium hoppy finish. Almost too sweet for my taste with a lower level of complexity, but not bad at all. MiP (8793), Sønderborg, Denmark Jun 1, 2009 Bottle. Good caramelly sugar aroma, some alcohol, hint of grassy hops. Deep dark red/brown with small floaties. The flavour is very sweet, caramelly, slightly roasted. Slightly rough finish, probably both from alcohol and hops, but good. Too sweet, though. scrizzz (1250), kirkland, Washington, USA May 27, 2009 Served at near room temp, strong aromas of raw alcohol, figs, wood and molasses. Dark tawny, persistent white head refused to give up. Very sweet, ruby port notes with spiked red fruit, but that’s where it ends. Finishes clean with only the warmth of alcohol. PetetheMeat (546), Hove, Denmark May 25, 2009 Brown, unclear. Diminishing yellow head. Good carbonation. Malty sweet aroma and flavour. Raisins, dades. Hides the ABV very well. Notes of hops in the finish. SUgar sticky palate. JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA May 22, 2009 12oz bottle from 2007, tasting pretty fine right now. Pale copper pour with a nice head and carbonation. The aroma is sharply hoppy, even with some age, with a malt mildness that makes this a pretty inviting BW. Taste is still pretty hot initially, which is a mild disappointment, but the creamy body and the caramel flavors tend to balance it out. Pretty good. hombrepalo (726), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 18, 2009 12 oz bottle @ Evanston Movie theater lounge. 12 oz. bottle. This had a sweet aroma. dark brown pour with an off-white head and creamy lace. lots of licorice for a BW. not what I’ve come to expect for the style, but still pretty good evening sipper.
